Can SI Joint pain cause nerve pain in the calf? Get horrible pain at night when trying to sleep. Had MRI and have no disk problems, so confused.

Sciatica: SI joint pain alone can't, but if you have a muscle spasm irritating your sciatic nerve, it can cause pain shooting down your leg. This requires very specific treatment. See your doctor who can examine you and prescribe the correct medications. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Nerve (Definition)

The brain and spinal cord communicates with what is occurring in the internal organs and limbs by nerve fibers where are like electrical wires with insulation (myelin) and the "copper" (axon). Within brain and spinal cord these nerves connect to other nerves via synapses on both axons and dendrites. A nerve can carry information regarding sensations, and ...Read more

told I have weak abs/tight hamstrings and this is causing my one sided SI joint pain, and nerve pain down leg hurts more @ night. Is this possible?

Unlikely: I find that explanation very unlikely. IMO, SI joint pain is a very overused explanation as a cause for low back pain. SI joint issue will not give you radicular symptoms or pain down the leg. ...Read more

Is Neurontin (gabapentin) useful for joint pain or just nerve pain? Is it safe to take if you have CREST syndrome?

Is Neurontin (gabapentin) useful for joint pain or just nerve pain? Is it safe to take if you have CREST syndrome?

CREST & Neurontin (gabapentin): Hello. Neurontin (gabapentin) is useful for joint and nerve pain. It boils down to the type of pain you have. Stabbing, burning, pins & needles, tingling, electric, numbness, etc. Type symptoms usually respond to Neurontin (gabapentin).
It's safe to take with CREST Syndrome. Rare for Neurontin (gabapentin) to exacerbate CREST symptoms. ...Read more

I have lumbar hypolordosis, sacroiliac joint pain and sciatic nerve pain and numbness, can these symptoms be linked?

Yes: Likely the hypolordosis results in bulging disks that can cause the sciatic and numbness symptoms. The sacroiliac joint issues are on top of that causing pain. See spine/pain specialist to discuss your options for relief. ...Read more

Physio says SI joint pain can cause nerve pain down leg and be reason for my pins n needles it foot, doc says pain doesn't go below knee, who's right?

SI joint pain & nerv: Normally SI joint pain does not radiate to the foot. I would not generally guess that SI joint pain and nerve dysfunction occurred together.

Can an untreated throat infection 3 month later cause bruising, joint pain, muscle pain, nerve pain, muscle twitching, burning sensations, tingling?

Highly unlikely: Chronic throat infections would have sore throat, enlarged and tender lymph nodes, and halitosis. Your symptoms seem more from a systemic illness. Since they have been present for this length of time suggest you see an internal medicine doctor. ...Read more

Am taking 175mg of topirmate 75mg in the morning and 100mg at nite. Can that amount cause joint pains? I take it for trigeminal neuralgia.

Topiramate: Is a newer anticonvulsant that blocks voltage-gated sodium ion channels. Because it is not extensively metabolized in the liver, topiramate is being promoted as the successor to Gabapentin and is prescribed for a variety of pain disorders including the prophylaxis of migraine headache. Not used specifically for trigeminal neuralgia and not causing joint pain.
See your physician for evaluation. ...Read more

Feels like random nerve pinches that come and go randomly on different limbs, following joint pain that also comes and goes within a few seconds. (?!)

Simple things first: Even though you are on the "older side" for growing pains, that is a possibility given the description of your symptoms. Having said that, there are other things that could be considered and looked at in the context of a full history ; physical examination especially family history. If simple over-the-counter pain meds don't help then, I recommend a visit to a good doctor. ...Read more

Tropical disease?: Complex issue that needs medical attention asap. Could be a tropical infectious disease from a variety of bacteria or parasites. Or die thug as simple as a food borne illness. If the local medical care is inadequate, you'll have to go to either a larger city, or back to the US. There's probably some expats there that could help find a good medical facility. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Can si joint inflammation cause calf nerve pain?

Depends: If you already have sciatica and it involves your si joint too, this nerve goes all the way down to the foot, and can affect any part of the nerve that shoots off from it. To double check, you need to see a PCP/Dr. To get this checked out and see for sure. A sports medicine, or osteopathic (DO) physician are well trained to see this, as are neurologist or orthopedist. Start with your PCP first! ...Read more

Hi I'm confused on SI joint pain, how far can it travels down the leg? Is the sciatica nerve close enough to the joint to be irrated by inflammation?

SI Joint Pain: Can radiate down to the calf in some people. There are referred patterns down the leg via the SI Joint. Typically though SI jt pain is found locally in the buttock/pelvis area.
If there is narrowing of the neuroforamen where the nerve exits then you can have sciatica like pain. ...Read more

Herniated L5/S1 w/sciatica & left SI joint pain for 2 mos. Drs want discectomy. How likely would PT and time make nerve and joint pain go away?

Depends on the case: Sometimes PT and other conservative therapy is enough to fix S1 radiculopathy. It's common for this to be recommended. If your MRI film shows obvious impingement, it may be therapy will not help though. When walking is affected, the reflexes are absent (ankle reflex here) and there is a lot of pain, if the MRI shows herniating disc material it is probably better to have the procedure. ...Read more

Can you get sciatica just in your calf? I get sharp stabbing pains in back near SI joints and nerve pain in calf, no disks problems though. Piriformis?

Sciatica still can b: One can still have sciatica without DISK problems. Many other places within the anatomy of the vertebral bodies that nerve roots involved in causing sciatica can be compromised. Symptoms can radiate above the calf or below the calf...typically into the big toe but certainly not always. Best option is to neurologist for good once over and potentially some electrical testing is diagnosis unclear. ...Read more

Can muscle unbalances cause Pain in SI joint Area on one side? Plus nerve pain down leg. Had MRI and showed no disk problems, pain in side really sharp

Yes but may not b: Yes muscle involvement can be involved, but also the facet joints can also cause radiating down the leg. As part of your evaluation the other thing to consider is if the nerve is being irritated outside the spine such as by the piriformis muscle. These are things your physician will need to try to evaluate and help you ...Read more

Chrondolamacia getting worse, pinched nerve in back, symmetrical joint pain, esp in hands & wrists. Morning stiffness. Fatigue. A little redness. RA?

Needs work up: Diagnosis of autoimmune arthritis (such as RA) includes blood work, clinical exam, and if nec. A variety of imaging. See your Dr.
From a radiology viewpoint, there are many tools. First and foremost are plain films. Quantitative dynamic MRI may actually be good for RA prognosis as well as early response to treatment.
There are now good biologic drugs for RA, so it is not as scary as it once was ...Read more

Can ADHD meds cause nerve damage? Ie numbness in fingers and joints, neck/shoulder tenseness, crippling sciatic nerve pain. Are these all related?

No. Stimulants can: Constrict blood vesselsraise blood pressure (usually by 5-6 mm hg) & ⬆ pulse (usually by 5-6 beats/minute), but they don't cause impingement of nerve roots with numbness, tingling & pain in the areas served by specific nerves. See your primary care to initiate evaluation for the cause of your symptoms. ...Read more
