Maybe SLE maybe not.: Diagnosis of rheumatologic disease is generally based on symptoms with support from lab. Sounds like you have a rheumatologic disease and are being treated with a rheumatologic agent perhaps by a rheumatologist. They can explain your particular situation better, but suffice it to say tests are not always right and a single test does not generally make or break a diagnosis. ...Read more

High+anax10yrs, other antibodies neg. Recurring flares: joint pain, lethargy, sicca, chest pain, rashes. All sun induced. Responds to 10mg prednis. Best dx?

Guessing: Too difficult to answer. Rheumatologic disease is often recognized by subtle characteristics of disease and progression over time. Can't be seen or well appreciated on line. Symptoms are often vague and overlap. Labs are helpful but not diagnostic. Best "test" is consistent follow up with rheumatologist and best diagnosis is what they give you. ...Read more

Daughter had HSP couple yrs ago and now has joint pain agsin no rash but pos ANA and moderately high esr. Is this connected? If not what else can be

May be connected!: Good morning,
i can understand the reason for the worry about the positive ANA and high ESR following hsp, which represents an immune-mediated vasculitis, which is an inflammation triggered by an antigen such as a virus infection. The presence of ANA and high ESR shows continued hyperactivity of immune system. As an immunologist, I recommend a follow-up by a rheumatologist to keep an eye on ana. ...Read more

I am taking Plaquinel for skin lupus. Will I be able to be in the sun okay? Or will it still cause hives, rash, joint pain, exhaustion? Thanks

Sun is dangerous: However, there is nothing special about the plaquinel that I am aware of. Protect your skin, wear a broad brim hat, cover your skin, to prevent skin cancer and early aging. You can get all the effects you asked about, but relating it to the sun would be unpredictable in my opinion ...Read more
