What causes on & off hematuria? Blood earlier, went to hospital & no hematuria, came back home & there was blood. No other symptoms. Tests were normal
Complex: Depends on age and gender and medical history and if blood is visible. Seeing a urologist for older folks is the place to start. Does the person smoke? 1 occasion of gross hematuria, no symptoms, urinalysis came back negative. Age 23. Should I push for further investigation? What could be cause?
Might not be urine: Ive seen many cases of women in the emergency department mistake blood in the urine with vaginal bleeding. It can be subtle. Medications like macrobid and pyridum also commonly change the color of urine and can be confused for blood. Renal and bladder stones can also cause bleeding but usually cause pain. You might need further tests if it reccurs. ...Read more
If i had hematuria due to kidney stone symptoms, how long after i feel a bit better should I recheck my urine to see if hematuria is gone? Thank you.
Difficult Question: If you have any remaining sludge or irritation the blood not seen by the human eye that shows on a dip test can stick around for a while and be normal. If a person needed a urologist to use a tool to grab the stone or a stent place the same is true then too. If you don't see blood and are pain free and following the diet your dr gave you you are ok until follow up with your doc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

25 y.O. Female routine pap smear found microscopic hematuria. No pain, no symptoms, and nurse says no infection. What could be the cause?
Two different source: Microscopic hematuria describes that blood was found in the urine from the bladder. A routine pap smear tests the cervical cells found inside the vagina. The test and the results seem to be from two different sources. You should call your nurse and ask her to clarify the findings as well as the next step. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
When I am dehydrated I have severe burning and UTI symptoms as soon as I am hydrated it resolves. Could my chronic hematuria cause this pain?
Here are some ...: Personal experience and commonsense can do so much for our life like what you described. Of no doubt, the effect of changing concentration and pH of urine may reach the personal threshold of sensation in the lining mucosa of bladder & urethra. So, clinically, it is okay as long as having stable renal function on tests and no UTI. Clinically, chronic hematuria is probably not related with the pain ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
