Doctor insights on:
My doctors scoffed at my following adelle davis in the 70s. They scoff at my eating organic local food now. Why?
I believe in the traditional approaches to healthy eating from the pioneers adelle davis and frances moore lappe. Who are leaders now?
Alice Waters/Farmers: Ms. Lappe's daughter is carrying on the small planet movement. Doctors ornish and weil are well-known proponents of healthy eating. There are many outside north america. With the rising cost of food and possible problems with our food supply, there is a need for others. My approach is a la michael pollan, using local fresh foods as much as possible. I cook low-fat according to what is in season. ...Read more

Avoid sugars & carbs: Helpful weight loss diets have natural foods that take time to chew but contain few calories. Examples include carrots, celery, and iceberg lettuce (little/no salad dressing). Is drinking 60oz distilled water a day dangerous? I am doing the Jillian Michaels Detox for 7 days (lemon, cranberry, dandelion root tea)is it safe?
In context.: Drinking 60 oz of water (doesn't have to be distilled) is adequate for hydration. That amount of water, in general, doesn't have any health effects as long as you're healthy otherwise (no kidney disease, &c). However the "detox" plan & its duration isn't generally advisable. Detox is nutritionally deficient & you can get electrolyte problems. Check w/ your doctor before starting any "fad" diets. ...Read more
Is it safe to take 2-b12, 2-b6, 3-lysine, 15000ui of d - vitamins, 4 tbls of crushed flaxseed and also 4 jillian michaels fat burner per day?
Why do that?: No good reason to be taking that combo of stuff. Don't know doses of b6 (too much- nerve damage); 15k iu of d (d2 or d3-different dosing) daily is too much (liver toxic, etc). Jillian michaels product at least says it has 100mg caffeine/dose (from guarana). You have no idea how much of anything else is in the proprietary blend. Can't recommend this regimen-it's wack. ...Read more
