Yes: Estrogen containing contraceptives are contraindicated in smokers 35 and over because studies show that the risk of blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks is unacceptably high in women of this age who use both estrogen and nicotine. I would strongly suggest that you either consider an alternative estrogen-free method of contraception or that you immediately quit smoking. ...Read more

No: Unless you have contraindications to being on birth control ( in which case you shouldn't take them at all) you can remain on birth control as long as you need it. There is no limit to how long you may stay on it. It's always a good idea to use condoms for std protection. ...Read more
