Doctor insights on:
I am jay patel and I want to know about skin.
Every time after normal to mild injury my skin not becomes as well before.
too much skin layers are?
Keloid?: You MAY be developing keloids. If so, your body is healing very well but producing an over-abundance of tissue in the process. This is more common in people w/brown or dark skin than w/pale skin. Please see your doctor. Consider using liquid Vitamin E oil on the scars. Peace and good health. ...Read more
Hi. my 18 month old daughter has constipation. it seems to be happening often. she is currently in pain. what can i do to help her now.thank you Jay?
Hi doc, I have 10-13 RBC/hcf showing up in my urine routine, while everything else is falling within normal range.
I was just wondering what might be the cause of this and what should be the further course of action for me.
Kidney stone: There are several causes of blood in the urine. The most common is a kidney stone so you should be checked for that. Other causes are from infection or bladder cancer. If it is persistent then a CT scan to look for stones is what I would do first (if there is no infection). Then next would consider sending you to urology for possible bladder cystoscopy. ...Read more
Is there a possible link between taking long term betablockers and diabetes due to over production of insulin and negative metabolic effects? Jay
No link: Although betablockers can inhibit the symptoms of hypoglycemia in diabetics, there are no studies that I am aware of that indicate that it contributes to higher Insulin levels or diabetes. One beta blocker (carvedilol) has studies demonstrating beneficial effects in diabetics in terms of Insulin levels and glucose control. ...Read more

Would carvedilol be a good choice of the newer betablockers for migraine aura and is there any convincing evidence? Thanks jay.
After mitral valve repair with annuloplasty ring and health is good with trivial regurgitation is there any evidence in betablockers for life? Jay
No: I suspect you were put on a beta blocker after surgery for atrial arrhythmias (especially atrial fibrillation) which is very common in the first few months after mitral repair surgery. But once you're fully healed (6 months), if you're not having any dysrhythmia and your blood pressure is controlled, you won't need beta blockers any longer. If your BP is up, a different drug could be used anyway. ...Read more

Need more meds.: That BP remains a bit too high, specifically the diastolic number. For now, you need more medication, perhaps a higher dose of one medication or the other, to bring your numbers into better control. Eventually, though, weight loss will certainly help. ...Read more
6 months after my mitral valve repair are antibiotics required for dental procedures ie for fillings and scale and clean in the uk or us. Jay?
Yes, pre-med: Any heart valve repair, replacement or even a functional, but damaged heart valve require antibiotic pre-medication in the us (can't say about uk, but suspect this is a universal precaution) for any routine invasive dental treatment. This is because of the bacteremia caused when this treatment is rendered and a dosage of antibiotics an hour before treatment is a small thing to do to stay healthy! ...Read more
I have forehead pain above my eyebrow area and in the middle of my forehead. Also, tenderness in the cheekbones and eye area. Plz Doctor Jay C tell me?
Could be sinus: As sinus related. Again without either more information or really seeing you I can't be certain. But it's possible that something is irritating your sinuses(the frontal sinuses are in the forehead region, maxillary by the cheeks, and ethmoid behind the nose). This could vary from different types of infections to just plain allergies. Hope this helps. ...Read more
