Electrocardiogram (ecg, ekg) is a print-out of the electrical forces detected by electrodes on the chest wall, as electricity travels through the heart with each heart beat. The electrodes are placed in different positions, and each position "sees" the electrical activity of the heart from its own vantage point. Abnormalities in signal detected at chest surface ...Read more

Mystery Back Pain: The most common causes of left upper back pain are muscle and ligament strain, shoulder injury, and muscle spasms. The majority of left upper back pain cases are from overuse. Due to the many factors that could contribute to back pain, a trained physician is required to diagnose the exact cause. It sounds like you had a thorough work up, but no cause was found. Hard to say w/o more details. ...Read more

Chest and upper back pain and discomfort at different times during the day. Ekg and heart enzymes normal. Been a week what could itbe. Please help.?

Hard to say: Pain in the chest and upper back can be a sign of heart problems, a blood clot or a few other serious problems; however, most of the time it is not serious. A normal ekg and enzymes is reassuring but may or may not be sufficient depending on your specific situation. You should speak with your doctor or be rechecked if you are not improving as expected. ...Read more

Could be: Or could be from reflux or musculoskeletal source or respiratory symptoms (--why are you smoking up to 2 packs a day?). If your dr. Has ruled out heart or endocrine source for symptoms, then ask about these other options. Once serious and specific-treatment sources eliminated, then can relax if / when it shows up. ...Read more

Can it be a heart attack if I have symptoms of cheat pain back pain arm tingling etc. Enzymes and EKG were normal 2 days ago?

Not likely: Myocardial infarction from blockage of a coronary artery is very rare in 27 yr old women. Other heart conditions or other medical causes are possible, but a detailed evaluation is needed to identify if any might be present. Though rare, one serious and sometimes overlooked cause of chest pain/arm tingling is pulmonary embolism — blood clot in the lung. See your doctor if symptoms recur. ...Read more

Wow: Do you smoke? Obviously if you don't smoke something else is going on. Unusual at age 20 but with your co morbidities especially diabetes I think you should be under the care of a cardiologist ; an endocrinologist and make sure they consult with each other. We never treat the blood or other diagnostic tests we treat the patient. Normal tests with continued complaints deserves more diagnosis. ...Read more

Unlikely cardiac: Hi. Based on your age and the studies you reference, your chest and back pain are unlikely cardiac in origin. Not surprising unless you have a family history of heart problems you didn't mention. There are countless other possible reasons for your pain, and I can't speculate without more information. I suggest you see a good diagnostician, perhaps a pulmonologist, for more diagnostics. Good luck! ...Read more

Am i having symptoms of a heart attack? Right breast pain, pain around shoulder blades and down the center of my back, pain in my right jaw, a little nauseous

A : A heart attack is when one of the heart arteries becomes plugged with plaque or fatty deposit and then a blood clot forms to completely plug up this vessel. At this point a portion of the heart muscle does not receive blood flow and permanent heart damage will occur if the artery is not opened within an hour or so.

Different patients will experience a heart attack differently. The "classic" presentation is a heavyweight, like a ton of bricks, sitting on the middle of the chest. This may be associated with a pain radiating to the left shoulder and arm as well as nausea and sweating. However, there are many other types of symptoms some patients experience when having a heart attack. Sometimes the symptoms are only in the neck or jaw, sometimes the symptoms are only in the arm. Sometimes there is no "pain" but only a sense of shortness of breath or a strong sense that 'something isn't right.' some people will have only minimal symptoms and never really realize they had a heart attack.

If you experience any of these symptoms e.g. Any bad or uncomfortable feeling between your ears and you belly button, that last 5-10 minutes or more I would encourage you to call immediately to your doctor for further advice. If these symptoms are worsening, you cannot breathe, you pass out, etc. Dial 911 immediately. ...Read more
