Jaw Pain After Root Canal
Jaw pain. Happened after root canal on L molar. Lower jaw tilted to L when mouth is opened. Dentist said do jaw exercise. RIght remedy? Other option?
Normal: The jaw and tooth can be sore following a root canal for several days. The tooth has been traumatized so there is an inflammatory response. Also jaw had to be opened wide and for extended time so muscles and joint strained. Your dentist wants you to care for your strained jaw with exercise, ice and heat, soft diet and controlled opening. Use ibuprofen every 4-6 hours for pain and reduce soreness. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
TMJ problem...: Your symptoms point to TMJ problem. You may have the problem prior to the appt. But it has not surfaced yet and during the root canal treatment you must open your mouth wide for a long time. This can trigger the symptoms. You can use hot and cold moist facial towels intermittenly applied at the joint area. Longer (around 30 sec.) with the heat vs. 10 sec. Cold. Contact your dentist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

When is an unfinished root canal ready for filling? My tooth/jaw pain has subsided, but lymph nodes still swollen, ok to finish?
I am an adult and got sealants on my teeth one year ago. I am having tooth & jaw pain that sometimes gives me headaches. It radiates up into my head. Is it possible I would need a root canal? How likely is that scenario?
Sealent issues: It would be unlikely that the sealants caused the the pain, especially if the discomfort did not start for a year. There may be decay under the sealant but you would need to get an xray to check on it. I would think that a change in your bite could cause all these symptoms, but you will need to see a dentist to evaluate. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Root canal 2 mths ago now have an abscess(jaw pain, headaches) knee surgery 1 month ago, been told not have a major dental after 3 months, what to do?
Root canal 7/27. Tooth 30. antibiotics, Vicodin, steroids. Jaw pain excruciating. Can't open mouth much. Ear hurts. Endo says needs time. all okay.
Be patient: Your endodontist is probably right in suggesting patience as it is nearing time, more than a week, to start seeing improvement in pain and swelling with the medications you are on. I would say wait until Monday for a reassessment by your endodontist for any complication. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Many possibilities: Root canal treatment can stimulate an inflammatory reaction. This can be bacterially induced, traumatically induced or both. The important question is what is the cause of your current pain. I suggest you return to the doctor that treated you for a detailed exam and diagnosis. Normal inflammation from trauma usually subsides in 7-14 days. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
