Jaw Muslce Makes A Ripping Sound When Opening Mouth
I yawned and heard a rip sound in my jaw near my ear, never happened before, am I okay?? Should I open my mouth? Drs say I don't have TMJ?
Sounds OK: When you yawn, you open your mouth much wider than you normally do. The sound of the joint "popping " is loud because it's right next to your ear. If there's no pain, everything's probably alright.

Jaw makes a clicking sound when opening and closing mouth. Also pain behind left ear when biting down on something. What could it be?
Jaw clicking: Most likely a condition called TMJ. Better see your dentistSee 1 more doctor answer
I have pains from opening my jaw. It feels like the muscle at the back is being stretched. My I got my wisdom teeth out a month ago. What should I do?
Yes: You suffer from tmd (temporomandibular joint dysfunction). See a dentist with extensive training and experience treating patients with this disorder to discuss palliative and conservative treatment options.
Popping jaw: There is a cartilage disc between your jaw and your skull that allow the jaw and muscles to function smoothly and keeps the joint lubricate. The popping happens when the disc is not in the optimal position. This is very common and if there is no pain treatment may not be needed. But it is a good idea to have your dentist evaluate your jaw.See 1 more doctor answer
Today my jaw made a loud poping sound accompanied by pain in jaw when I opened my mouth what could have caused this?
Joint displacement: This is not the same as a dislocation or subluxation but is a derangement of the disc of cartilage that is inside the joint and acts as a cushion between the bones. See your dentist to have the joint examined as well as to evaluate the way your teeth are arranged and fit together (your "bite"). Very likely you will need s "cat scan" or 3 dimensional image to accurately diagnose.See 1 more doctor answer
My left jaw having this click sound whenever I open my mouth. And now it hurts when I open my mouth slight wider. Please help?
Jaw joint disk out: Having popping/clicking TMJ noises not necessarily a problem. Many people experience these noises. Without pain or limitation of function the noise itself is not an issue. If you have locking or limited movement, "ear" pain, headaches, morning jaw stiffness/soreness, difficulty chewing, bruxism, previous jaw injuries or other jaw conditions, the problem is more serious. Then see a TMJ specialist.See 1 more doctor answer
Heard loud popping sound in my jaw when I opened my mouth to eat... What could it be? Is this normal? Its never happened to me before...
TMJ: Joint disc popping in or out of position. If it happens again, see your Dentist.
I yawned this morning and my jaw clicked and made a wretching sound. I currently wear a mouth guard because I grind at night. Is the noise a concern?
Probably not: You already wear an Orthotic which is a good first step. Now, report your symptoms to your Dentist to be noted in your chart. If problem repeats Dentist will better be able to follow your progress. The next step is to try to determine why you grind your teeth (which does jaw joint damage). Ask your Dentist if an Orthodontic Consultation is in order.See 5 more doctor answers
When I yawn I sometimes hear a awful sound near my jaw. Not a popping/clicking sound, sounds like flesh ripping. When open/close my mouth, it squishs?
TMJ problems: The jaw joint can get inflamed to the point of dislocation. Talk to your dentist or consult a Maxillofacial surgeon.
Trismus: What you are describing is caused trismus, which simply means limited opening of the mouth, which can be due to many things, including tmd (temporomandibular disorders). It could be muscle spasm, perhaps due to bruxism or clenching, or it could be a displaced disc inside the jaw joint, or tmj. This is commonly called a closed lock, and if it persists, you should see a specialist.
My jaw hurts on the left when I open my mouth or chew, clicking sounds when I yawn wide open and with pain. Is this dangerous?
Sounds like TMJ: You need a constant with a TMJ specialist
I hear a clicking sound in my jaw mostly every time I open and close my mouth. Do I have TMJ or something wrong with my mouth or jaw?
Maybe....: Clicking joints are not necessarily a bad thing. Moving parts sometimes make noise. If your clicking progresses to clicking with pain or no clicking with reduced range of motion then you have a TMJ problem. Many people are asymptomatic with only a click noise in their jaw joints. Try to be careful about chewing gum and like foods, they stress the joint more and may cause you discomfort.See 3 more doctor answers
My jaw dislocated this morning & I took a muscle relaxer, but now my mouth is closed and my jaw is still dislocated. How can my jaw be put back now??
See your dentist: The TMJ is a hinged joint. Fully opening the mouth and having someone pull down, then re attaching the hinge in position can work to replace it. This needs to be done by. A professional, and you need to determine why you are dislocating
When I open my mouth, I can feel slight the slide jaw bone rub against each other. There is no pain at all. But I can hear a sound when a jaw bone rub?
I have muscle spams in my jaw that forces my mouth shut. What can I do to relieve this besides going to the ER for treatment?
Trismus.: Prevention is the best treatment, but once spasms start, unfortunately, your options are limited. See https://www. Mskcc. Org/cancer-care/patient-education/trismus for some exercises to do when you're feeling well. Hot water bottles or heating pads can help, but that depends on the CAUSE of trismus (ie, a diagnosis) which you haven't given. Muscle prob? Nerve? Cancer? Use HealthTap Prime to discuss.
My mouth when I open makes a popping sound and my jaw slides over is that TMJ also does TMJ cause permanent hearing loss thanks?
ADD w/reduction: This could be anterior disc displacement with reduction, a temporomandibular joint disorder. Your eustacion tube is directly behind this joint and extreme pressure from the joint can cause abnormal hearing, usually it is more of a "stuffy" feeling in your ear canal. I would not consider this permanent, unless you never addressed the tmjd.See 4 more doctor answers
Whenever I lift my head up under the right side of my mouth jaw area it hurts, only when I lift up. It feels almost like a pulled muscle. Ideas?
Heads up: It very well may be a pulled, strained or cramped muscle. How long has it been going on and have you sought any remedies. If there is nothing you can think of that may have caused it and it has been ongoing go see your docotr for evaluation.
Suffered kick on jaw 4 mths ago, recently keeps having cracking sounds, cannot open mouth w/o pain, jaw joints feels like it doesn't fit? What injury?
TMD: TM Joint issue. Possibly secondarily some toxin, pathogen or allergen in the TM joint causing pain. Sounds like the TM disc is displaced resulting in an incorrect jaw posture and incorrect bite. See a neuromuscular dentist (ICCMO) to reposture the mandible.
The side of my jaw is hurting right below my ear, and cannot open my mouth all the way plus sounds like sand inside could it be tmj?
Displaced disc: If your limited opening, which is also called trismus, persists, you may have a displaced disc in the TMJ. Crepitus is a clinical sign consistent with arthritis. A TMJ MRI would reveal the problem. You should see a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon for proper evaluation and treatment. Get well soon!See 4 more doctor answers
