Jaw joint noises: Jaw joint noises are very common and seen in at least 25% of the normal population. If there is no pain or limited function of the jaw, the noises by themselves are generally of no concern. However, if there is pain or limited oral opening, it may indicate a form of arthritis. The "cracky" noise you hear may be crepitus, a grating or grinding noise that commonly accompanies arthritis of the joint. ...Read more

I got TMJ in my left jaw since 10 years ago. No pain, but i can make sound on it everytime i want. Is there any solution beside surgery?

No treatment needed: You are fortunate not to have pain. The noise in your joint (crepitus) suggests irregularity or roughness of the surfaces which articulate together. If your only symptom is noise, you are lucky. The only indication to treat a noisy and otherwise painless joint would be if the noise is so loud as to be socially problematic (others can hear it). ...Read more

I got TMJ in my left jaw since 10 years ago. No pain, but i can make sound on it everytime i want. Is threre any solution beside surgery?

Yes possibly: Popping or clicking of the joint is very difficult to eliminate, even with surgery. If you have no pain and no locking (limited opening or trouble closing, ) then you may have to live with the popping. Conservative treatment can help diminish or cut down the popping, but you should seek out a tmj/tmd specialist. ...Read more

Sounds crazy, but whenever i bend over or lean downward i get a sharp pain in my left jaw and it hurts bad! any ideas? Should i be worried?

May be sinusitis: Fluid in the sinuses will move forward when bending down or turning the head putting pressure on the maxillary branch of the trigeminal nerve which runs along the floor of the maxillary sinus. This can result in referred pain/pressure to the face and jaw/teeth. See your oral surgeon or ENT for a diagnosis. ...Read more

My jaw makes sounds of cracking while eating & sometimes it gets jammed.Mostly this happens when i sit infront of my computer for long time.

TMJ dysfunction: When your jaw makes crackling sounds, that is called crepitus. Your TMJ (jaw joints) are not functioning properly. It is probably a disc displacement. This typically occurs due to heavy muscle contractions mostly at night while sleeping, but also, stress during the day such as concentrating while using a computer can aggravate the problem. A full evaluation needs to be done by a dentist for tmd. ...Read more

TMJ disc problem: The popping of the jaw joint (TMJ) is not normal, however many people have it. It is because of the mal-position of the disc in the joint. If left untreated, it may advance to locked jaw. You need to be evaluated & probably fit for a nightguard. ...Read more
