She is not gaining consciousness.
Depends: I am assuming of course that your friend is in intensive care at hospital. It may take awhile. Please discuss with doctors caring for your friend as they may be able to update you more. A few suggestions: Not sure where you live, or what is available. Disease can be very nasty, and leave lasting problems, but 9 Y.O. Child has far better chance of full recovery than elderly adult. Would recommend a team comprised of infectious disease specialists, and experienced neurologists. Might do best being treated at famous facility such as boston children's, johns hopkins cmsc, mayo. Depends: There are two jev vaccines licensed in the us & available through physicians offices or clinics. One, the je-mb vaccine is no longer in production (2006) & may be in short supply. The other, available for adults >18yo, is the je-vc called Ixiaro & distributed by novartis. A few vaccines are produced in asia but not available in the us. As of february 2013, Ixiaro approved for use in all of europe for children aes 2 months & up, maybe paving the way for use in the usa soon for children.
