I have a slightly low MCV value of 78 fl. Is there any need for concern, and how can I raise this to more normal levels? Thank you.
Need more info:
Iron deficiency and thalassemia trait are common causes of low MCV. If your hemoglobin is normal. There is no need to be concerned about an MCV of 78.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex. ...Read more
Moved az to fl. In az multiple dr thought I had ms. Now in fl start all over & dr here don't agree. What are some test to request for diagnosis?
I am 20weeks and 6days and these are the measured parameters: BPD=53.92, OFD=65.36, HC=187.91; AC=160.88; FL=35.06, HL=33.28. Are they normal values?
Normal values?: Hello ~ I have no idea off-hand. There are specific tables that Ultrasound Radiologists carry with them when they do these tests and report of them. They tell you in the report how your measurements comp to the median. No MD on the planet commits values like this to memory. Read the report carefully it must tell you if those values are normal if not call the Radiologist! Thanks ...Read more
Strictly personal: I am not an ob/gyn and do not know many as I am in a very different field, but my wife and I used dr. Palmer at usf health/tampa general and he was excellent, with prenatal, perinatal and postnatal care. So, this is more of a personal than a professional recommendation, but hope this helps! ...Read more

Depends!: Some medications can be refilled through Healthtap Prime, the virtual "urgent Care" that is part of this website However, please read the terms of service to find which medicines we can refill & those we cannot. Should I be concerned if I drink 5 bottles of water each day. 16.9 fl oz (1.05pt) 500ml each bottle. Is it bad?
Probably not: However, are you drinking 5 bottles of water because you are thirsty or because someone thought it was a good idea? Unless you have a history of kidney stones, you should be fine to drink somewhat less than 2.5+ liters of fluids (5 bottles of water + other sources of water). For most patients, a total daily intake of 2L of fluids should be more than adequate. ...Read more

Hemoglobin 12.1 g/dl, hematrocrit 36%. Redblood cell distribution width 16.1%. MCV 81 fl. Can someone tell me if these numbers are ok?
Low hemoglobin: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, for a male your hemoglobin is low and you need to be checked out for blood loss and/or mal-absorption. Please consult your doctor for that. ...Read more
Dr If FL is 1week2 days behind when comparing with BPD, AC, HC what are the chances of having down syndrome baby? I'm 25 years old. Really tensed : (
Get the actual ans-: Wer. With a blood draw, you will know if your fetus is affected with Down syndrome in 3 to 6 days by fetal DNA analysis; 99.9% accurate, with an amnio or CVS for confirmation of a positive to eliminate the approximate 1 in 1000 false positive. This test has made all of the ultrasound screening for Down syndrome obsolete. ...Read more
Dr I didn't do NT and quadruple test, today I did normal U/S and shown HC, AC, BPD are on 17.2 weeks and FL on 16 weeks. It will be miscalculation??
Not likely: This is within the normal range. Look at the height of your family members and your partners. Also second trimester US is accurate within about 14 days. If the femur length and humerus were more than 3 weeks off then I would be concerned about short limb issues, but 1 week off is more likely just related to height in the family. ...Read more

Big picture: The red cell size distribution width is nothing other than a marker that says red cells vary in size; when I've been borderline-iron deficient from donating blood this has happened to me. Don't treat the number, find the cause -- it could be something as simple as your genes or a warning of real illness. Your physician can sort this out. Best wishes. ...Read more

Pill mills: Florida was until recently the King of Pill Mills, with some areas, particularly in the south, having dozens of these near the airports and elsewhere. The governor finally signed on to a bill which limited them, and many of them have been closed, and many doctors and nurses disciplined and even charged criminally. Ask your doctor to call the pharmacist -- many of them are understandably leary. ...Read more

Small cells/less hgb: When a kid has small blood cells & reduced hemoglobin there is something interfering with the process. For some, it can be lack of iron in their diet which would also show up as anemia. For some, it is a genetic abnormality like thalassemia where the protein strands that make up the blood are not made correctly leading to the small depleted cells. ...Read more

What's the most accurate, the CRL or the FL, AC, HC? Which one gives you the most accurate fetal age? What are the errors?
All of the above.: I am not an Obstetrician, but as I understand it, no one measurement is "most accurate" for fetal age. That is why all are measured together - some sort of average of all the measurements is the best indicator of gestational age. Every baby is different, & due to genetics some babies will have larger heads for a given age, others will have long legs. So doctors follow growth of all parts over time ...Read more

And what are the Progesterone levels? , high levels are reassuing, low levels are not, but it does not appear to be that your bhcg is going up properly now because it should double every 3 days and go up by 66% every 2 days and the last one did not, once u are 6 - 6 1/2 weeks u should be able to see a normal rate ht beat and definitely by 7 weeks, so then u should know for sure. ...Read more
