Ivy Leaf Extract Cough Syrup
We simply don't know: While I am inclined to say it is probably ok, we do not have enough information and no formal studies to say one way or another. Demonstrating safety or hazard is much more difficult than you may realize. That is why we always err on the side of caution during pregnancy and take things only when clearly indicated and of proven benefit.See 1 more doctor answer
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
I gave my 18months baby a cough syrup prospan (dried ivy leaf extract for 3 days &found out that I should have shaked the bottle. Did I harm my baby?
Cough syrups: No cough medication has been safely approved for children at that age. At this time the american academy of pediatrics recommends honey in children over a year old for cough relief. I am not familiar with ivy leaf extract so I can't give you a final answer on it but definitely can advise you not to use any meds that have not been recommended by your pediatritian. If it was px call prescriber x advise.See 1 more doctor answer
I am 31 weeks pregnant. I took a cough syrup that contains ivy leaf. Since I took it the top of my stomach has been cramping 6 hours now. Is this ok?
Unsure: While this could be a form of GI upset, you can't make that assumption. Please call the doctor or midwife who is delivering you and alert them of the pain now. Based on your description, I can't rule out preterm labor or contractions. By the way most cough drops and plain Robitussin (guaifenesin) area probably the safest for a cough during pregnancy.See 1 more doctor answer
I appreciate your: Honesty. I once saw a video of two men who died after they smoked poison ivy. Their lungs filled up with fluid, their throat closed & died painfully in a few minutes. I can't imagine the road you are on will end in anything different. Shame. Honesty is a great virtue. It's time to be honest with yourself. You need help.See 1 more doctor answer

Its 4 days since my wisdom tooth removed and im having a cough. Is it ok to drink cough syrup together with amoxicillin antibiotic?
Flavorings: Good question! Some medications can taste awful. Many pharmacies have flavorings that they can add to liquid medication to disguise the taste. Another option is to chew cinnamon gum after taking the medication.
Cough syrup overmed: Cough syrup overdose symptoms depend on the type of drug that is in the cough syrup. Codeine can cause respiratory depression in high doses. Guaifenesin will cause stomach aches and headaches in higher doses. Pseudoephedrine can cause increased blood pressure in normal doses and even more so in higher doses. Hope this helps. Try to stay in the recommended doses or the prescribed doses.
Probably won't help: The studies done on how much kids cough who take cough meds vs those who don't very clearly show that cough meds really don't make much difference. Many actually contain a med to suppress cough and a med to make you have a more productive cough within the same medicine! Better to use humidity, push fluids. Can use something to dry up nose a little if severe congestion or use a neti pot.
Call poison control: Hotline at 1-800-222-1222. Tell them exactly which cough syrup you took and the exact amount. They will guide you from there.
Cough syrup: Hard to advise you from your description. Best to call your doctor or go to the ER if its a large amount.
Depends: Should be ok, depends what was in the cough syrup. Your pharmacist can be great help in these situations
Cough: Maybe so, maybe not. Depends on the child, why he/she is coughing and the cough syrup. There are many illnesses that cause cough. Best to see your doctor about any significant cough so that the cause is found and proper medicine can be given. For minor coughs honey in hot herb tea is soothing for children over 1 year of age.See 1 more doctor answer
