Hormone: The pregnancy test commonly referred to as HCG is actually a measure of the beta subunit of the HCG molecule, so you may hear it referred to as beta hcg, hcg, or beta and they are the same test. Hcgs: I know this seems confusing to you. First let me say that it is unlikely that were going to have a successful ongoing pregnancy but never say never. The best way to proceed is to continue to check your hCGs and follow them closely. I am also curious about your Progesterone levels. Possibilities include; first and most likely chemical pregnancy. Second and also possible is a tubal pregnancy. Third ...Read more

High: I assume that HCG was from 12/11/12. That is about 5-6 weeks pregnant depending on whether you had day 3 or day 5 transfer. That number could be normal but definitely suggests multiple pregnancies. Your ultrasound will show you what is happening. ...Read more

Ok: Most ivf clinics only measure HCG levels approximately 9 days after a day 5 embryo transfer. However, some clinics feel that the combination of HCG levels and Progesterone levels have a more predictive value of a good pregnancy than HCG levels alone. Personally, we only measure hcg. Hope this helps and good luck. ...Read more

Fri Hcg level 18000. Mon 28000. Wed 38000. Just turned 6wks on Tue. My Dr is concerned its not high enough, what do you think?
Concerned: In a normal early pregnancy the HCG level should have doubled between Friday and Monday. I'm sure that is why your doctor repeated it on Wednesday and it still did not rise as much as would be expected. I would want an ultrasound to be sure the baby is in your uterus and not in a tube and that everything looks ok. This could still be a normal pregnancy but I am concerned. Good luck. ...Read more
