During ivf mature eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. A few days later, the fertilized egg (embryo) or eggs are implanted into the uterus. One cycle of in vitro fertilization ...Read more

Ultrasound showed a sac between the fetus & placenta. wt could it be? it is 1st time to get preg. after IVF. I am 21 weeks pregnant (singleton).

Many possibilities: What you describe could be many things - seeing the image is a first step to getting an answer. Try consulting with an OBGYN (in HealthTap Concierge), and attach a copy of the ultrasound image to get an answer to what that could be. ...Read more

I now know synthetic progestin is not good for early pregnancy. Will the one injection new doc gave me hurt fetus? I am 7wk+ 5 with IVF twins.

Unnlikely: No one can make any guarantees, but honestly i'm willing to say it's highly unlikely. The progestin is not at all a certain danger, it's just a risk you proabably ought not take. ...Read more

6wks, 6days post ivf, tech can see fetal pole & sac, no heartbeat. Had gush of blood a few days earlier. Hcg still rising. Is this a miscarriage?

IVF miscarraige: 1) congratulations on you becoming pregnant. 2) this cannot be determined at this time. In your favor: rising hcg presence of pole unfavorable of course is the "gush of blood". However, bleeding sometimes occurs with implantation of the embryp/placental growth. Make sure you're not rh- with a presence of fetal pole, you should see a fetal heart in maximum one week with a normal pregnancy. ...Read more

May be too early...: .... to tell how well your early pregnancy is going. Generally, with a singleton non-IVF intrauterine pregnancy, the embryonic developmental milestones are known and there are sonographic criteria to diagnose a failed or failing pregnancy that may not apply to all IVF pregnancies. Usually, diagnosis of a failed pregnancy will be made if the mean gestational sac diam.is >25 mm and no embryo is seen ...Read more

IVF, 7 weeks pregnant but scan shows 6 weeks, 1 five day blastocyst,I have 2 gesational sacs, one has a fetal pole and yolk sac and 2nd has nothing???

Repeat Ultrasound: After IVF, one can see several different scenarios. It is best to wait and repeat the ultrasound. Do not feel anything is wrong till a repeat ultrasound is done. Early ultrasounds can be confusing. sometimes, twin pregnancies happen even with 1 blastocyst transfer as the blastocyst can divide. However, growth discrepancy can happen and one may survive and the other may not. Good Luck! ...Read more

Im 7 weeks pregnant from ivf, hCG rising, now at 20700. 7 week scan had gest sac @ 13mm and yolk sac, no fetal pole or heartbeat. Is pregnancy doomed?

Im 7 weeks pregnant from ivf, hCG rising, now at 20700. 7 week scan had gest sac @ 13mm and yolk sac, no fetal pole or heartbeat. Is pregnancy doomed?

I am afraid so.: Your transvaginal sonogram should have shown a fetal pole and heart tones after a beta HCG level of 6, 000. Your rei specialist can fill you in on the issues of early pregnancy failure after ivf, which include molar pregnancy, blighted ovum, heterotopic and ectopic pregnancies. At your age, you should achieve a successful pregnancy within 2-6 ivf cycles. Best of luck! ...Read more

What are the effects of caffeine on fetal development?

Great question!: Caffeine crosses the placenta and may have fetal effects - including proarrhythmic tendency in the fetal heart and untold consequences in fetal brain development.
