Can ivc filter cause your legs to swell?

Can ivc filter cause your legs to swell?

The filter unless along with blood thinner actually can cause propagation of clot and more swelling of the legs.. ...Read more

Does an IVC filter only catch a blood clot that would travel to the lungs?

Does an IVC filter only catch a blood clot that would travel to the lungs?

That's main function: The main purpose of the IVC filter is to protect the lungs from blood clot reaching them. The filter will also prevent blood clots from reaching the right atrium of the heart, however, this is not the main concern as the clot normally travels quickly through the heart into the pulmonary artery of lungs where it gets stuck in the narrowing pulmonary arteries. This is termed pulmonary embolism. ...Read more

The installation of an IVC filter is all that is needed to avoid most heart attacks, strokes and PE's if there is a history of familial heart disease?

No way;can only trap: large clots from leg/pelvic veins from proceeding to right heart&lungs. Heart attacks=clots in arteries supplying heart muscle after plaque rupture. Strokes=clots in brain arteries or from left atria (rarely ventricle); Most=without symptoms; occur without warning. Setup=atherosclerosis (drivers=LDL-P, HbA1c & Systolic BP not ↓↓, Large-HDL-P not ↑↑, etc as in my other answers) &/or atrial fib. ...Read more

I have blood clotting prothrobin gene mutation 20210a on walfarin and have birds nest ivc filter , filter has moved and 2wires broken is this danger?

Generally no: Filters can fracture and break but they generally don't completely dislodge. Unfortunately that doesn't give you a lot of comfort knowing that if is is not completely blocking then clot can continue.
