Maybe: Need to discuss with your gyn provider but at six months with this much of a problem with bleeding I would most likely take it out. Also need to be sure no other issues at play here. So discussion with your gyn provider and a good history and exam needed. Hope this helps. Best of luck. Dr R ...Read more

IUD: I think you probably has a mirena (levonorgestrel)? If so, your period or lack of were Mirena (levonorgestrel) related. Your body is now getting back to your own hormone support of your uterus. It may take a cycle or two. Then your periods will be your own. ...Read more

See your doctor: There are many possible explanations to this. One of my biggest concerns when a woman experiences a significant change in her bleeding pattern is that her iud may have migrated the first thing I tell my patients is to check the strings and make sure they can feel them. If you can't, then definitely schedule an appointment with your physician. I also recommend checking a home pregnancy test. ...Read more

My iud mirena (levonorgestrel) expired February 4 2015 can I get pregnant if im bleeding?

My iud mirena (levonorgestrel) expired February 4 2015 can I get pregnant if im bleeding?

Time to change: The manufacturer of Mirena (levonorgestrel) recommends removal after five years. We do know a "grace period" is built in knowing that some may keep in longer. A few studies have demonstrated that it is effective for longer than five years. Regardless, it should be removed and replaced if you are not ready to get pregnant. If you think you might be pregnant check then check a home pregnancy test. ...Read more

There's a minor bleeding often n on between periods after my copper IUD implanted last month. So does IUD suits me or not. What should I do.

I had my IUD taken out and I recently had sex on saturday and it was unprotected and I was bleeding a little bit could still get pregnant '?

Yes: The iud does not inhibit an egg coming off the ovary. I assume it was a mirena, (levonorgestrel) the bleeding may have been menstrual bleeding.
When the iud is gone it is possible, and highly probable, that you will get pregnant. ...Read more

Doctor: I would make a quick phone call to your OB/GYN that had this placed. They have an on call physician to answer questions just like yours. It is not safe to have us virtual doctors try to make an assessment and say its safe for you to bleed without knowing other elements of your history. Play this one safe and call your OB/GYN. ...Read more

I have an IUD inserted in may, I stopped spotting last month. I got a pap smear on tues and I haven't stopped heavily bleeding. Is this normal?

No: You need to call your ob/gyn quickly - you may have had some movement or irritation to the iud during the pap.

If something was biopsied during the pap, then you may bleed, but biopsies are not a routine part of a pap smear. ...Read more

I've had the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud since January & every time I have intercourse I bleed after, sometimes for a few days. Is this normal?

It can be: Irregular bleeding is common for up to 6 months after the insertion of Mirena (levonorgestrel). However, bleeding after intercourse can also be a symptom of abnormal cells on the cervix or cervicitis. Your PCP or GYN can check for both of these with an exam. Hope this helps. ...Read more

I got my first dose of lupron Monday and I also had my iud removed I am bleeding pretty bad I have endometriosis is the bleeding normal? Should I call

I got my first dose of lupron Monday and I also had my iud removed I am bleeding pretty bad I have endometriosis is the bleeding normal? Should I call

Bleeding patterns: Removing your IUD would trigger a menstrual cycle. Starting Lupron would stop it. Since you did both then these two things are competing against each other. It is not possible to predict in the short term which would win. Over time the Lupron will stop the bleeding but one can not use Lupron long term. Endometriosis cases are challenging as there is not a one size fits all approach that works. ...Read more

Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud for 7 months. Happily NO bleeding/spotting since insertion. 2 days ago began bleeding very heavily. Normal? Possible causes?

Unprotected sex?: If you have not been in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship, both of whom are disease-free, get checked for a sexually transmitted disease. Also, an exam can detect if you have irritation of the cervix, which can sometimes bleed. Any new meds or supplements? If so, & not prescribed, stop. Can be other causes, & if no chance of std & problem happens again, get checked. If fever, pain-ER! ...Read more

Had endo bx with IUD to tx pre-can in or 9/6 after unable to dilate after 4 attempts. I continue to have bleeding, not spotting (which is not heavy but has increased), pain & cramps. Is this expected?

Possibly: A lot of factors going into your question. I'm assuming bx came back negative, right? If you just got the iud, mirena, (levonorgestrel) I assume, then sometimes heavy bleed can accompany use of iud. It typically gets better, but not always so bleed could be due to that. At 45, make sure no polyps or fibroids on ultrasound. Check thyroid too. If all else done, then hormones might help, or endo ablation. Talk w/ md. ...Read more

Why am I getting vanishing IUD and bleeding?

Not good - need dr.: If you iud has 'vanished' you need to have some imaging done (sonogram to evaluate the uterus/ovaries, and look for the iud in the uterus) and maybe ct scan to see if the iud has perforated through the uterine wall, into the abdominal cavity. Need to be checked for pregnancy as well. This problem definitely needs a visit with the gyn. ...Read more

I had IUD removed jan 4 then I had bleeding 3 days later is that my period?

I had IUD removed jan 4 then I had bleeding 3 days later is that my period?

It could be: It depends what type of iud you had removed. Progesterone iuds like the Mirena (levonorgestrel) usually cause changes in your period (like skipping periods or irregular bleeding) but copper iuds like the paragard do not normally cause menstrual changes. If it was a Progesterone iud I doubt it was a period but if it was a copper iud and you were do to start your period it probably was. ...Read more
