Talk to hematologist: Looks like your platelet count is dropping progressively and thus the chance to get a severe hemorrhage is high at this rate. I presume that you have been worked up thoroughly to rule out potential causes. Yes: Flu can cause either an increase in platelet count (thrombocytosis) or decrease in platelet count (thrombocytopenia). It causes much more thrombocytopenia than thrombocytosis. Its effect on platelet count is also age-dependent. Have ITP. When ok, platelets r 90-120 but if done week after my cycle, they go to almost 200 even if sick/bleeding(severe nosebleeds etc). Why is that?

Number is good: But not the sole factor, other routine precautions such as stopping drugs like blood thinners, aspirin, NSAIDs, etc.., are important together with being fit for surgery anyhow. ITP: Thrombocytopenia or low platelet level can be caused by so many things such as drugs, platelet consumption by clots, infections, vitamin deficiency, cancer related etc. Your doctor has to rule out all those possibilities and ultimately to do a bone marrow biopsy to eval bone marrow. Symptom: Most of the time itp patients are asymptomatic and the only abnormality they have is the low platelet level on their blood counts.
