Dry skin?: Apply a moisturizer all over your body immediately after bathing and preferably again in another 12 hrs +/- bathing. Avoid scented and anti-bacterial soaps. May also try an antihistamine to see if this helps. Check any lotion, medication, supplements which were newly introduced prior to onset of your itching. Dermographism: Zyrtec-----generic is ceterizine, same but cheaper. Can take daily if need. Some need 2. Some feel sleepy and try instead claratin or Allegra. May need cream to reduce itch. OTC Aveeno, (oatmeal) Eucerin, etc can help. Prescription triamcinolone comes in a 16 oz jar. Dermographism is a physical urticaria, not an allergy. Histamine is released from mast cells in skin by rubbing or scratching or pressure. ...Read more

If I even GRAZE my skin anywhere it becomes red inflamed & very itchy and will welt up. Sporadically will happen without contact. No new foods/meds?

Dermatographism: Not an allergy. A physical urticaria. See a dermatologist. Meanwhile you can try ceterazine (Zertec) daily. Why ginger? I like it but it is not a medicine. ...Read more

Welts after scratch: Dermatographism is a condition in which welts (hives) appear after one scratches the skin. There are cells in the skin called mast cells. These cells release histamine when one has an allergic reaction. This is why one takes anti-histamines for allergies. Dermographism: Twitchy mast cells. A physical urticaria, not an allergy. Skin reacts to stroking. A topical steroid, probably prescription strength, to reduce itch will reduce scratching, thus reduce welting. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Atarax are very sedating and therefor appropriate only at bedtime. The best antihistamine for this is usually Zyrtec [cetirizine] which is sometimes used at 2 or 3 a day if 1 is not effective. ...Read more

MAYBE Athlete's foot: These are often caused by a fungal infection commonly referred to at athlete's foot. There are many different presentations and this is one of them. When salt touches my skin i get very itchy and bumps or welts raise up. They get bigger the more i itch if salt is on my hands.
