Hi! I have a muffled feeling in my ear and itchy fluid feeling.. Giving me an imbalance.. Is that an infection or sinusitis since i suffer allergies?
Labyrinthitis: This could very well be either the result of your allergies or be a viral infection that was helped by the congestion caused by your allergies. This could very well be a case of labyrinthitis, which is an infection of the vestibular system within the inner ear. You should probably have it evaluated by your primary care doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What can I do about a crusty, itchy rash(?) in my ear canal? I read somewhere that the bacteria inside the ear is different than outside on your body.
Dry skin: Like the rest of the body surface, the skin in the ear canals can get dry, crusty and intensely itchy. I often recommend putting a drop of vegetable oil into the canals about 2x/wk to moisturize the skin. I agree that an infection may also be possible but it would not respond to the application of oil in the ear canals. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Itchy outer ear: Hello. Using cold compresses to the ear will immediately help to reduce ear itching and redness. Using a steroid cream on a 2x/day for no longer than 14 days will help to resolve the itching. Also a medication like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will resolve the itching rather quickly. ...Read more
Find out why: Itchy ears can be from allergies, problems in the ear, wax or a number other causes. Otitis externa or: seborrhea. You must be examined to determine whether this is a bacterial infection or a skin inflammation. I would suggest very gentle cleaning of the crusted areas with a soapy solution of Head and Shoulders or Selsun(selenium) Shampoo ( if not allergic to these products) applied with a Q-tip. Leave on the affected area 5-7 minutes and then rinse off with warm water and gentle soap. ...Read more
Fungal?: I wonder if you have a fungal infection of the skin inside your ear, called Otomycosis. The other option would be more like an eczema of the ear canal but this would not often be moist. I would suggest you have your doctor take a look at it as it is difficult to diagnose without looking in your ear and that way he/she can properly treat you as well. Best wishes. ...Read more
Dermatitis: A dry itchy flaky ear canal is a manifestation of eczema of the ear canal skin. The skin of the ear canal is like skin in any other part of the external integument covering the outside of the body. There are several remedies such as 2% salicylic acid. I have chronic itchy ears. What can I do to stop them from itching so much instead of using q tips.
Itchy ears: It would probably be best to find out why you have so much itching and address that problem. Most likely, you have an allergy that manifests as itching in your ears. If that's the cause, an antihistamine such as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or Zyrtec (or others) should help. If not, see an ENT doctor to make sure there's nothing there of greater concern. And you are right..don't use q-tips in your ears. ...Read more
