Itchy Swollen Ear Canal Symptoms
Ear canal swollen and same ear and eye on left side bumps all over and itchiness. Could there be something in ear or just allergic reaction.?
Allergic reaction: The itchy bumps imply an allergic reaction and should respond to some over the counter cortisone cream, but swelling of the ear canal usually means an outer ear infection (such as "swimmer's ear") and usually ear drops would be prescribed. Occasionally white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide can be used for mild swimmer's ear. ...Read more

Shea butter is: A natural product that can be applied lightly to the skin to reduce itching and dryness. The new hearing aids are calling more mental attention to your ears. What can I do about a crusty, itchy rash (?) in my ear canal? I read somewhere that the bacteria inside the ear is different than outside on your body.
Dry skin: Like the rest of the body surface, the skin in the ear canals can get dry, crusty and intensely itchy. I often recommend putting a drop of vegetable oil into the canals about 2x/wk to moisturize the skin. I agree that an infection may also be possible but it would not respond to the application of oil in the ear canals. ...Read more

Tincture of time: And try not to submit to scratching the itch too much. This is likely self limited. Ask your doctor if there is some type of moisturizing or anti-itch cream you could put on (very small amounts) but I would not recommend applying it with anything like a q-tip or anything. Remember, nothing should go in your ear except your elbow! Lol! Hear! Hear! ...Read more

Sore and itchy throat, one of my inner ear canal hurting and itching, sneezing, coughing, and watery eyes.
Allergies vs Cold: It sounds like you could have one of two things going on- a cold or allergies. Your symptoms are consistent with seasonal allergies, hitting you all at once, which is no fun. You might try an over the counter med like claritin, (loratadine) zyrtec, or Allegra to see if this helps. You may also need prescription medications to help control your symptoms. If it continues past 1-2 weeks, see your doctor. ...Read more

Will acetic acid help with itchy ear canals? How long after using can I put my hearing aids in? Aids go behind ear and in canal.
It may: Acetic acid is probably helpful for itchy ear canals but is more appropriately used as a first drug for otitis externa or infection of the ear canal skin. My recommendation for itchy ears, which usually indicates dryness and if you are a Q tip user, please stop forever, is MINERAL OIL. This medication lubricates the skin of the canal and I have had few complaints after patients use it. ...Read more
