Chickenpox is unusual in adults but can occur, as can syphilis (get tested if at risk). More often this may be an allergic reaction or direct toxicity (like poison ivy, etc.) contact dermatitis. The lesions on your palms are disturbing. Do see a doctor. ...Read more

Had impetigo and used mupirocin2% three weeks ago. Left with redness and lower lip is itchy but no signs of blisters. Is it back?

Had impetigo and used mupirocin2% three weeks ago. Left with redness and lower lip is itchy but no signs of blisters. Is it back?

Maybe not: If the redness is a little less (improving) each day, it may be "post-inflammatory" redness that gradually goes away after the impetigo heals. If crusting or oozing returns, then the doctor can look to see if the infection has returned. Many people get blisters on a lip that are cold sores, instead of impetigo. Cold sores are caused by viruses (mupirocin doesn't work on those viruses). ...Read more

Sound like a burn: Your symptoms are suggestive of a burn, or sunburn, as in a 1st degree burn, where you have redness and blisters but no true deep skin damage. It is typical for a rash to clear and have blisters left over; they are tiny areas of inflammation fluid left over from the active rash process. It sounds like it is resolving. If it persists are recurs, you should probably see a dermatologist. ...Read more

Skin underneath a ring was red, itchy. Last week or so it became blistering, painful, peeling. Getting worse. What could it be?

Skin underneath a ring was red, itchy. Last week or so it became blistering, painful, peeling. Getting worse. What could it be?

Dermatitis: Rashes under rings can be due to metal allergy (contact dermatitis), or an irritant effect from soaps trapped under the ring if not removed when doing dishes without gloves. Both causes can get secondarily infected, with germs, or yeast, giving much redness and tenderness. Remove the ring before dishwashing and get appropriate cream from a dermatologist. ...Read more

How do I know if I have herpes because I don't see blisters but I just itch monthly under clitoris hood where the hair grows it's really red and itchy?

Probably not herpes: Recurrent itching usually isn't herpes, and herpes rarely recurs as often as once a month; 3-6 times a year is more typical. This sounds more like a yeast infection or some other skin condition. See a doctor while you're having symptoms. Australia's sexual health centres are superb, and Melbourne's is among the best. Give them a call or see your personal physician. Good luck! ...Read more
