See your surgeon: you need to find out why, your pain medication is the first suspect, antibiotic,or any other medicine prescribed to you that you took could be a suspect, rarely medication you were exposed to while you were under anesthesia. stop taking any medicine that you start after surgery, notified your surgeon immediately, and take loratidine, and benadryl (diphenhydramine) until the reaction is gone. not better go to ER. ...Read more

In either case, contact your foot doctor, or surgeon, and let her/him know about it, so they can advise you further. This is best done in person. Does an itchy rash post surgery indicate allergy or rejection of synthetic bone, plate or screws?

Likely not: If only the skin is involved, it is not from rejection or allergy to the hardware. Glue from the tape or ingredient of the antiseptic used to sterilize the incision sites is more likely the causes for the rash. Try some hydrocortisone cream. ...Read more

I had surgery on my left wrist on the 11th. The orange stuff they used caused a very itchy rash and I told them I was allergic to betadine. Any ideas?

? iodide allergy: It sounds like a possible allergy to iodides (iodine-containing substances). If there is a rash in areas which were coated by the "orange stuff", that represents a "contact dermatitis". Contact the surgeon to confirm it was an iodinated substance, and note for the future your iodine allergy. ...Read more
