There are lots...: ...Of possibilities, but this time of year it is most likely to be an allergic response to something that came in contact with your arms, such as poison ivy, particularly if you've been working in the garden or camping or clearing weeds. Over-the-counter creams are too weak for such rashes, so let a dermatologist give you a precise diagnosis and treatment. Could we see the photos? ...Read more

Mgt: From your description there may be an allergic reaction. I would advise letting your PCP know and a dose of over the counter children's anti histamine such as Claritin (loratadine) may be used. It may be related to the virus or an allergic trigger.
Your PCP will obtain a history including whether there were new foods, medications, lotions etc. ...Read more

My granddaughter (16 mo) diagnosed roseola or fifths. I have an itchy rash on arms and neck and had fever blister. Any connection?

No connection: Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is the most frequent cause of roseola.●Roseola classically begins with three to five days of fever that may exceed 40ºC (104ºF); as the fever abates, a blanching macular or maculopapular rash develops, starting on the neck and trunk and spreads to the face and extremities. It is self limited and benign. I do not believe your symptoms are caused by Roseola! ...Read more

Chronic rash: Some persistent conditions that can give such a rash are psoriasis, eczema, contact dermatitis, scabies, and a medication reaction. Hard to say: If the rash is moving from a local to a general distribution it is unlikely a simple contact dermatitis like poison ivy. Generalized rashes can be secondary to an infection (virus or bacteria) a food reaction or bug bites. Without examining the rash it is hard to speculate on a cause or specific treatment. The tick testing negative for lyme does not rule out other infections. But your symptoms could be unrelated to the bite too! See a doc knowledgeable in tick-borne illness. Examination: It's difficult to say without seeing the rash and asking a series of questions about possible causes. Local contact with something you are allergic to (contact dermatitis) is a common cause. Fungal infections (ringwork or tinea) are another common cause. Itchy skin turns into fast spreading rash like bumps when scratched. Both arms and right leg. Do have allergies & asthma. Not on meds for allergies.
