A little complex: Let's start with the ear pain, which might be a nervus intermedius neuralgia, but the focal issues could be a TMJ process. My son has a itchy rash that is hotto the touch on his ccheeks ears neck back and tummy. It came on suddenly, what could it be?

M.D. visit: There are a number of possible causes of his rash. The sudden nature without other symptoms makes a reaction or contact with a triggering agent more likely. If there is associated fever, cold symptoms, then viral and other infectious causes may be the reason for his symptoms. His age and immunization status is important information to provide as well. Perioral dermatitis: Perioral dermatitis vs Ezcema. Excema would be treated with moisturizer and topical steroids, for perioral dermatitis, these are not helpful and would worsen the condition. Sounds most like perioral dermatitis. Things to try: reduce products, they clog and worsen the condition. Regularly cleanse. Try to touch your face less often. If no better, see a Dermatologist, or a doctor with expertise. ...Read more

What can I do about a crusty, itchy rash(?) in my ear canal? I read somewhere that the bacteria inside the ear is different than outside on your body.

Dry skin: Like the rest of the body surface, the skin in the ear canals can get dry, crusty and intensely itchy. I often recommend putting a drop of vegetable oil into the canals about 2x/wk to moisturize the skin.
