My wife has ra. And has been having intermittent cough, hoarseness. Had red, itchy eyes also. Also now a small lump side of throat.

Doubt RA: Your symptoms are not suggestive of RA. More commonly, this could be from either a viral upper respiratory infection or allergies. Viral infections can sometimes lead to joint aches (but allergies are not usually associated with joint pain). ...Read more

When I lay down my left arm goes locked up and it very much hurts to move it from ra. Doctor gave me a shot of pred. Helped but now hurts more. Whatnow?

Pred = palliative: Corticosteroids (in pill form or injection) should only be used short term, and should never be the mainstay of your treatment. If your arm is locking up (is it your shoulder or elsewhere?), you may have a torn rotator cuff or some other problem that requires additional evaluation and treatment. You should see a rheumatologist if you haven't already. ...Read more

I have lupus fibermyalgia RA my hands and arm feel like there on fire hands swelling and muscles hurt. Could it be from any of my illnesses?

Absolutely: Your swelling could be due to the RA, which would also cause pain in the joints. Fibromyalgia can cause diffuse pain anywhere in the body. Make sure you are followed by a rheumatologist who can help get these symptoms under control. I would also suggest extra vitamin D (5000 units of D3 daily). Studies suggest that higher amounts my decrease the frequency and severity of flare-ups. ...Read more

Swelling/pain in hands & where arm meets wrists, pain up forearm, elbow, back of arm, swollen spot top of shoulder, RA test -, started 1 yr ago, worried about deterioration, no rash, no warmth, some tingling?

Pain in hands/arms: This sounds very much like a connective tissue problem. Best to see a rheumatologist for further evaluation and work up. Also with the tingling, EMG/NCS (nerve) testing also indicated. Your provider will know what this means and what to do. Best of luck ...Read more

Dr suspects disc herniation bc I have bad pain&numbness in my back, arms, &both legs. Lately my hands/bottom of feet hurt to. Could it be RA instead?

Less likely: While it is not impossible for RA to affect large joints like the back/spine, it is much more likely to affect the smaller joints such as in the fingers. However, in order for there to be a disc herniation affecting both your arms and legs it would have to be quite high up, in your upper back or neck. Testing, including CT/MRI imaging, and blood tests are needed. Work with your doctor to diagnose. ...Read more

My ANA was negative. Is it possible to still have RA, Lupus, or Fibromyalgia? Lyrica (pregabalin) is NOT helping the leg/arm/hand/foot pain. CRP is 6.5.

My ANA was negative. Is it possible to still have RA, Lupus, or Fibromyalgia? Lyrica (pregabalin) is NOT helping the leg/arm/hand/foot pain. CRP is 6.5.

Yes due to FALSE NEG: Every test in the world has a FALSE NEGATIVE rate which tells what percentage of the time a test comes out negative but really it should say positive. It is rare for someone to have RA, LUPUS, or FM and have a positive ANA.... on the order of much less than 1%. will be FALSE NEGATIVE. ...Read more
