I have an itchy scalp and really itchy skin after drinking alcohol. Am I having an allergic reaction?
R Eyelid swells & not itchy. Dr said looks allergy but would be in both eyes. Happens after drinking alcohol or stress/anxiety. Stumped on what causes?
Alcohol flush syn: I found the following explanation in Wikipedia: "Alcohol flush reaction is a condition in which an individual develops flushes or blotches associated with erythema on the face, neck, shoulders, and, in some cases, the entire body after consuming alcoholic beverages. The reaction is the result of an accumulation of acetaldehyde, a metabolic byproduct of the catabolic metabolism of alcohol".
Probably: Chronic alcoholism can cause parotid gland enlargement and this can give a swollen look for the face.
Two things: Alcohol causes blood vessels to dilate (open up) which can give you rosy red cheeks.
ETOH dehydrogenase: You likely have a genetic variation where your body does not produce as much of the enzyme that breaks down alcohol, called alcohol dehydrogenase. There isn't a way to change that so you ought to consider drinking smaller amounts of alcohol.

It could: It could, especially if you drink too much. One or two standard size drinks is probably ok, but more could be a problem. Standard size is 12 oz beer, 4-6 oz wine or 1-1.5 oz liquor.See 1 more doctor answer

I was drinking alcohol and I blacked out and fell backwards and hit the back on my head. I have a slight headache, should I go see a doc?
Blame your genes: Some people lack an enzyme for metabolizing alcohol, and so they have flushing when they drink. The enzyme is called alcohol dehydrogenase. A study in 2009 linked the reaction to increased risk of esophageal cancer, here's a link for more info: http://www. Nih. Gov/news/health/mar2009/niaaa-23.htm
I have heard I can take a Zantac (ranitidine) or antihistamine tablet prior to drinking alcohol to stop my face from flushing red, is this true?
After drinking alcohol what has looked like a malar went a purple colour, felt hot and made face look awful. Woke up & it's gone. Sound like lupus?
Absolutely not: That scenario is not consistent with lupus.
Burning and sharp pains in kidneys and redness in face gets worse when drinking alcohol feel tired and run down a lot any suggestions thanks?
See your doc!: Sounds like you may be drinking a bit too much. But it may also be an allergic reaction, or some problem with your kidneys. Alcohol can give you a great high, but the downward plunge afterwards can be devastating! You can experiment by avoiding alcohol for a couple of weeks and see if the symptoms fade. If not, please check with a medical doctor.
I get acute severe edema of the hands, feet and face along with a tingling, burning pain within moments of eating certain foods and drinking alcohol?
See an allergist: These symptoms need to be investigated, consult an allergist for testing and proper diagnosis. They may or may not be related to food intake.
Pain in glands under my jaw after drinking alcohol. Strong radiating pain in right arm. Slight numbness on right side from face to waist. Ms pain?
DO YOU HAVE MS?: Not clear what is going on with you, but the arm pain and numbness could indicate peripheral nerve problems from neck or shoulder, and the extensive numbness might suggest spinal cord compression in neck. Although pain very frequent in ms, your description suggests a different etiology. See you doctor and explore causation.
