Wondering why face feels flushed and itchy when drink red wine?

blood vessels dilate: Does this happen with all alcohol or just red wine? Many individuals will have histamine release due to alcohol exposure which results in the flushing. Why I get itchy hives after drinking certain alcoholic beverages i.E. Beer, some red wine etc but ok with others?

Why I get itchy hives after drinking certain alcoholic beverages i.E. Beer, some red wine etc but ok with others?

Tough question : Because wine & beer don't share common ingredients other than alcohol & you tolerate other alcoholic beverages. You might have 2 allergies - hops & something else in wine. Try michelob - supposedly made with rice hops. Is there a pattern to your wine hives - grape variety, region of origin, etc. Or be the designated driver. You may not be the life of the party but you will help save lives. ...Read more

Hello, : Hello, I am wondering if this could be hypothyroidism. Some symptoms can inlcude: weight gain, hair loss, iincrease in tongue size and dry skin. Dry skin can be a source of itching. Other possible symptoms include: feeling tired and weak, feeling depressed or irritable, decreased sex drive, muscle cramps and pain, coarsening of hair, sensitivity to cold and constipation. If your skin feels dry, i suggest using a moisturing lotion. The way that hypothyroidism or other possible endocrine problems would be diagnosed is through specific lab tests. ...Read more

Is drinking wine healthy? And if so, what quantity is recommended?

Is drinking wine healthy? And if so, what quantity is recommended?

Any alcohol consumption should be limited to two daily - and i don't mean an average. That is, binging on seven drinks on friday and saturday is not ok. There are cardiac and blood vessel benefits to alcohol, and some authors have indicated other benefits, especially of red wine. Good luck. ...Read more

Does drinking wine cause headaches?

Does drinking wine cause headaches?

Yes, in some people: Drinking red wine causes headaches in some people, but white wine doesn't cause a problem. The cause for "red wine headache" is uncertain, but is likely due to a chemical in red wine. Also, drinking beer, wine, or liquor causes flushing (red skin) and some headache, in people who get too much aldehyde (from alcohol metabolism) when drinking alcohol. How long can I wait to take beta blocker after drinking wine?

How long can I wait to take beta blocker after drinking wine?

Depends: There is no reason to wait any time between taking a beta-blocker and a glass of wine, as long as you are limiting your wine consumption to 7 drinks/week in women (and older men, twice that in men). Wine makes some people flush and get lightheaded, and beta blockers can do the same thing, so if you are drinking 2-3 glasses of wine on one occasion, shorter acting beta blockers (inderal) should wait. ...Read more

Papaya enzyme after drinking wine, what is this for?

No idea: there is nothing that I can find in the literature that suggests any benefit, or any harm from using papaya enzyme after drinking wine. There is, in fact, a papaya-based wine available in some places.
