Hernias: Hernias are holes in the abdominal wall through which abdominal contents such as fat and intestines can protrude, causing a lump under the skin. I'm not sure what you mean exactly about the left side of your stomach, but hernias are commonly seen in the groins, ; in the middle of the abdominal wall at or above the belly button. Sounds like a hernia: Umbilical hernias are common. They can be congenital or develop from a weakness in the tissue behind the navel.
All should be surgically repaired for they can grow - and, in worst cases, trap bowel in them which can be very serious.
The operation is to fix them is simple (day surgery) and not dangerous. Please do see a doctor for a proper diagnosis - it does sound like a hernia.
