Itch In Throat Cant Stop Coughing
I have dry itching throat cough for over 7 to 8 years today. Went to a lot of docs but nothing worked. I never smoke. Can you please help me.
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
I have had an itching throat for slightly more than a week which causes me to cough a lot. The cough is getting worse daily. What do you think it is?
Start with sore throat and then chest congestion, itching throat, cough with sputum, yellow thick. Is that bronchitis?
Possibly...: Your symptoms may be indicative of bronchitis, either bacterial, viral or even allergic etiology. In order to be sure, you should see your doctor. If you have a bacterial infection, antibiotics may be needed. For viral or allergic etiologies, therapy depends on the precise signs and symptoms present!
I had throat constriction, coughing and stuffy nose with sore tonsils. Everything is gone but now I have an itch in my throat and cant stop coughing?
UpperRespiratoryInfx: Symptoms of upper respiratory infection aka common cold can last several weeks. Recent study concluded that average cough lasts 18d. In other words, as long as you're getting better, you're getting better, right? However, you should see your Family Doc if symptoms persist or get worse.
Hey, my question is, my throat is dry most of the times an itches grom de he inside, the cough is sometimes non stop, I've been like this for 2 weeks?
Had cough for five weeks that comes in fits. Starts with terrible itch in throat. Will almost cause vomiting. Tried allergy meds.?
Possible LPR: Exposure of the vocal cords to stomach acid ; pepsin will result in inflammation of the vocal cords (as is also often seen with acid regurgitation) = lpr. Acute laryngitis may result, but watch out for chronic hoarseness, throat clearing, airway spasms, bronchitis, an asthma-type presentation, ; cough. Has your doctor assessed your response to an acid blocker medicine?
Correct: An itchy nose and throat may very well be the result of inhalant allergies. Best advice is to consult an allergist. Another possible cause is dryness of the lining of both the nose and throat lining. Consult an allergist.

Allergy med may help: Sometimes post nasal drip (drainage from nose/sinus) can cause an itchy throat- but please know that there are other causes and if this is something that persists you should see your dr. Other symptoms if it is rhintis could be nasal congestion, face pain or pressure, earache or pressure, cough from throat etc. Also acid reflux can cause itchy/irritated throat- see dr to clarify cause.
Post-nasal drip?: This may well be material draining out of the sinuses, irritating the back of the throat. You might try nasal irrigation with saline, or use of a netti-pot for sinus irrigation. You can get this from your friendly pharmacist otc. Worth a try. Good luck.
Any other symptoms?: I think you need to consult an oral surgeon to get a biopsy on the lesion.

Give it some time: A cold usually involves symptoms of fever, chills, possibly muscle aches, and possibly foul drainage and sore throat. Allergies typically present with itching of eyes throat and palate, watery eyes, mucous or watery nasal drainage. Both colds and allergies have nasal congestion, fatigue, and sneezing as symptoms. Antihistamines and decongestant along with nasal saline are fine to use for both.

Chronic cough in a 65 year-old semi-retired computer software engineer living in Las Vegas. How to resolve the cough and prevent recurrences.....?
Chronic Cough: 65 year old East Asian American gentleman presents with persistent cough he believes started with pharyngitis and developed into severe coughing. Coughing lasted about 2 weeks but now has persisted at night. No complaint of fever, night sweats, hemoptysis. Cough relieved by sitting up. Assessment and plan. Chronic cough that does not go away can be a sign of tuberculosis. You need to have a TB test placed immediately and examine sick contacts, etc. Studies show that the most common causes of chronic cough are upper airway syndrome-postnasal drip (trial of antihistamines indicated), GERD (empiric treatment of GERD indicated) and asthma (trial of bronchodilators indicated). Studies show category C evidence that physicians should order a chest x-ray for non-smokers with a chronic cough (>8 weeks) who are not taking an ACE inhibitor. Since your cough is positional and may be caused by GERD, I would start with an empiric trial of GERD therapy, then antihistamine, then bronchodilatorsSee 9 more doctor answers
