What caued thyroid nodules? Thyroid is normal size and functions normally...

Very common problem: Thyroid nodules are very common. We do not know why they appear. They normally do not cause functional changes in the thyroid. Once they are found, thyroid labs are done and ultrasound is used to evaluate. Those over 1 cm often get biopsied with fine needle aspiration biopsy. Luckily, about 95% of nodules are benign. ...Read more

Thyroid gland is increased in vascularity suggestive of underlying thyroiditis.....
Tsh is normal?

Happens regularly: This picture is encountered relatively often. Think of it as if the thyroid is inflamed but still has enough reserve to produce adequate hormone. It can be seen in conditions like subclinical thyroiditis or in hashimoto's disease, after the thyroid is "burnt out" and doesn't produce elevated hormone, but before the hormone levels become low. See an endocrinologist for more information. ...Read more

Heteroneous in echotexture thyroid typical of hashimotos disease?

Could be: It is difficult to reliably sonographically differentiate hashimoto thyroiditis from other thyroid pathology. Ultrasound features can be variable depending of the severity and phase of disease. A diffusely enlarged thyroid gland with a heterogeneous echotexture is a common sonographic presentation. ...Read more

Thyroid nodule of the right lobe. Fna indicated follicular lesion-also hypothyroid, family history of malignant thyroid nodules. Options?

Surgery or...: A repeat biopsy combined with an afirma assay test may give you somewhat better guidance, but with your history and risk factors, surgery may be the best option. By the way, why are you taking generic T4 an Armour Thyroid together? There is no way to monitor the dosage properly as the lab tests will be unreliable. Brand name T4 is better, safer and more reliable. ...Read more

Thyroid ultrasound show mild diffused parenchymal hyper vasuclarity.3mm hyperechoic nodule in the lateral aspect in the left lobe thyroid normal > tsh?

Thyroid ultrasound show mild diffused parenchymal hyper vasuclarity.3mm hyperechoic nodule in the lateral aspect in the left lobe thyroid normal > tsh?

Possibly thyroiditis: Hypervascularity is a typical finding in people with underlying autoimmune thyroiditis (hashimoto's or graves disease). The 3 mm nodule is likely of no significance and can be watched. You need to know your TSH level. Getting thyroid antibodies (thyroid peroxidase, thyroglobulin antibodies) would be helpful in making a diagnosis. ...Read more

Thyroid ultrasound showed heterogenous echogenicity hypervascular thyroid. Thyroid labs normal. Any thoughts on what this is?

See endocrinologist: It is unclear why these studies are being done, especially if thyroid blood tests are normal. You should see an endocrinologist to have him/her interpret these tests. That ultrasound is consistent with hashimotos thyroiditis. ...Read more

Thyroid swelling. Ultrasound heterogenous thyroid parynchema with hypervascularity. Blood test-normal tsh t4 t3 (liothyronine) etc but >1300 TPo antibodies?

Thyroid swelling. Ultrasound heterogenous thyroid parynchema with hypervascularity. Blood test-normal tsh t4 t3 (liothyronine) etc but >1300 TPo antibodies?

Hard to say: Ive yet to have anyone NOT have elevated TPo but I havent sent many. The standard answer would be that it likley is GRAVES disease starting but if there arent a lot of symptoms and the labs are normal you wouldnt give treatment. Retesting if symptoms and at about every 3 months. ...Read more

What does "normal echogenicity of bilateral thyroid glands and isthmus" mean?

Thyroid ultrasound: This sounds like the description of a normal thyroid gland. Normal echogenicity means the texture is normal. Bilateral = both sides. Isthmus is the thin strand of thyroid tissue between the 2 lobes. ...Read more

Thyroid gland hyper functioning nodule right lobe multi nodular goiter. What does this all mean?

Thyroid gland hyper functioning nodule right lobe multi nodular goiter. What does this all mean?

Multinodular goiter: Hi. Your hyper-functioning nodule is producing thyroid hormone without pituitary regulation. Since you have multiple nodules, chances are they're all overproducing thyroid hormone (aka "hot" nodules). Your radio-iodine scan will tell. Any "cold" nodule of certain size will need to be evaluated to make sure it's not cancer (you may not have any cold nodules). Treatment with 131-Iodine is easy. ...Read more
