Is Zyrtec And Singulair The Same Type Of Drug
I take zyrtec and singulair (montelukast) daily in the morning. Is it ok to take benedryl also, in the evening, while visiting friends with pets for the weekend?
Are there any longterm effects of using singulair (montelukast) and zyrtec daily? Both perscribed and I have had no syptoms of asthma for the last 1-2years.
Fantastic!: No, there are no long term problems with using both of these on a daily basis. They are doing exactly what we want them to - no ER visits or hospitalizations, no need for oral or IV steroids to keep your asthma controlled. Keep up the good work and make sure to exercise your lungs as well to build up their capacity and good health! Flu shots will be available in about 2 months for this season.... ...Read more
My 8 year old daughter is taking zyrtec and singulair (montelukast) plus inhailers is that too much for her alergies?
No elevation: Tiger, I can't find any evidence that any of those medications will increase your alk phos and I used them with patients regularly. Singulair (montelukast) is an anti-inflammatory used for asthma/allergies and it blocks certain areas of the inflammatory pathway. Both Hydroxyzine and zyrtec are traditional anti-histamines and block histamine binding to cells. Do you have elevated alk phos? Why was it checked? ...Read more

Can Flonase be used 2x a day once am & once pm for nasal drip/allergies? If so, for how long can I continue this? Also on Xyzal, (levocetirizine) Zyrtec, & Singulair.
See below.: Flonase is usually taken once per day, unless your doctor prescribing it has told you otherwise. Also, both Xyzal (levocetirizine) and Zyrtec are long-acting antihistamines, also usually taken only once per day. You should discuss all of your medications with your doctor and they can advise you of the best way to take your allergy medications. ...Read more
I'm having an allergy attack. I'm already prescribed Zyrtec and Singulair and still can't stop sneezing. Can I take Benadryl with these 2 meds and go to bed?
Allergy meds: Yes - there should be no reaction with the singulair and maybe a slight reaction (increased somnolence)the the zyrtec but since you are heading to bed that isn't an issue. You might want to double the dose of Zyrtec going forward as the 20 mg dose was actually better when the drug was being developed. ...Read more

Do try prilosac for gerd as dr. Bansal suggested. You may also try one of the older antihistamines like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or chlortrimeton which may help you sleep. You can still take zyrtec in the day time.
Singulair can still be taken at night. It has no effect on sleep. If medicines are not helpful, allergy evaluation and immunothrapy

Can allergic rhinitis w/ severe post nasal drip and painful swollen l-neck gland bring on high blood press. Prescription zyrtec, singulair, (montelukast) flonase, motrin?
Probably not: Allergic rhinitis is an immunological disease caused by mast cell degranulation and the release of mediators of inflammation, especially histamine. I suppose it is possible that mast cell inflammatory mediators could alter blood pressure. Also another possibility is anxiety caused by the presence of severe allergic response. In general most cases of hypertension are not caused by nasal allergy. ...Read more
