It shouldn't be..: There is always some/slight odor to the menstrual blood, but foul odor suggests a possibility of infection--vaginitis/vaginosis. A retained tampon is often the course of very foul odor even without menstrual flow. Yes, it can: Can get better after childbirth or menopause. Sounds like you have dysmenorrhea. Just painful periods. You can take Ibuprofen 800 mg every 6 hours starting 24 hours before your period. Naproxen 500 mg every 8 hours also helps. Depending on your age oral contraceptive pills can lighten the period and ease the pain.
