I had sex the day i took my first pill of my second pack of birth control pill and i was a week late to take it. Is it safe? But it was withdrawal

Could be pregnant: If you started your second pack of pills a week after you should have, it's possible you were already close to ovulation. And withdrawal is not an adequate method of birth control: some sperm can still be present before withdrawal. If remembering to take your pills is a problem, you might consider another method of birth control. ...Read more

Can I have unprotected sex on placebo days of pack if I don't have withdrawal bleeding w/o getting pregnet? Been taking birth control for months

Yes: Birth control pills, when taken each day at about the same time, are still working to prevent pregnancy, regardless of whether the withdrawal bleeding is lighter than expected, heavier than expected, or intentionally prevented. However, if the withdrawal bleeding is unintentionally missing, one can check a home urine pregnancy test. Real life can surprise you sometimes. ...Read more

Should I take emergency contraceptive if I've been on birth control pills for 10 days and had unprotected sex? I thought after 7 days was effective.

Should I take emergency contraceptive if I've been on birth control pills for 10 days and had unprotected sex? I thought after 7 days was effective.

You decide: The pill is designed to work by preventing your ovaries from releasing eggs. To do that the pill provides a baseline level of hormone to keep it from happening. Some companies state their pill is effective after a week, but many OBGYNS suggest backup BC for the first month until your body gets accustomed to the pill. The choice is yours. ...Read more

I was on birth control for 3 months taking it irregularly. Had unprotected sex during . Had all my withdrawl periods . Does that mean i'm not pregnan?

No.: Only a negative pregnancy test means you are not pregnant. But, I am worried by your comments. If you are using bcp irregularly due to difficulty remembering etc. Maybe that method of bc is not your "cup of tea"
there are other forms that promote better compliance & that would be better suited for you. Ex. The patch every week. The ring every month, Depo-Provera every 3 months, iud for 5 or 10 yrs. ...Read more

What is the most effective of the female contraceptives?

Implanon/Nexplanon: At this point the Implanon (single capsule inserted under skin in arm) is considered most effective form of birth control. Iud is also a very effective form of birth control. ...Read more

How effective is contraceptive gel?

How effective is contraceptive gel?

Varies: The theroretical or "perfect" use of a contraceptive gel or cream should approach 85-90 % but actual use is closer to 75-80%. The difference results from variance in use, how long was it in, how long did intercourse last, was intercourse repeated without re-using gel? An individual woman's anatomy may play a factor. A tilted uterus may hide the cervix from the chemical barrier of the gel. ...Read more

Several choices: There have been important improvements in intra-uterine devices in the past 10 years. These small devices may or may not contain progestin hormones, and can safely stay in place for years. They need to be inserted by a nurse practitioner or doctor in the office. Implanon, which is inserted under the skin is another possibility. It contains a progestin that is gradually released into the body. ...Read more

What makes oral contraceptives only 97%-99% effective and not 100%?

Life is not perfect: Life is never perfect nor 100%. Things just happen, sometimes. Each woman's body has to respond to the artificial hormones in the pills, and maybe once in a rare while she still manages to ovulate. The percentages are about a population of women, NOT about one woman. Medical statistics have to be interpreted this way, because nobody knows what the percentage effectiveness is for a specific woman. ...Read more
