How effective are wellbutrin (bupropion) and electroconvulsive therapy?

Weigh risks/benefits: Unfortunately, giving you statistics won't be meaningful in the end. There are numbers for acute & chronic treatment w/ varying rates of remission, relapse, and readmission to inpatient services for unipolar depression, bipolar depression, and other illnesses. Some people swear by it. Others are underwhelmed. May be worth at least a trial run. Safely done w/ sedation. Wellbutrin (bupropion) can be very useful ...Read more

I am currently taking klonopin (2, 5mg day), ritalin (35mg/day), Wellbutrin (bupropion) XL (300mg) and Tegretol CR (400mg) and I'm not sure about my treatment.?

I am currently taking klonopin (2, 5mg day), ritalin (35mg/day), Wellbutrin (bupropion) XL (300mg) and Tegretol CR (400mg) and I'm not sure about my treatment.?

Medication question: Talk to the prescribing doctor. If you feel the medication is not working, then there are other choices, based on the classifications of the medicine, since I don't have your diagnosis. If your questions are about the medications themselves, then ask your doctor to explain. ...Read more

Take treatment for GAD by Prozac 40 mg, my GP wants add either Buspar (buspirone) or Wellbutrin to encounter side effects of Prozac, which the safe and ideal combo?

Buspirone: You may want to talk to your doc about a psychiatry referral since it sounds like (a)he may be in over their head. Buspirone is an anti-anxiety drug, but both Prozac and Wellbutrin (bupropion) can potentially exacerbate anxiety. There are many other potential options if Buspirone is not beneficial, but I would not abandon it before max dose of 60 mg/d. It should be taken 3-4 times dailu ...Read more

I take Effexor (venlafaxine) and wellbutrin for panic disorder. What other treatments are best besides medications?

Talk therapy: Even with medication, I think it is a very goo idea to do some cbt talk therapy. That can help you feel more skilled (less helpless) in moderating or avoiding attacks. You may not need the meds if you are successful. Also meditation and certain exercise programs can be a good support for correcting this disorder. I'm impressed by your interest in self-management. I bet you'll do well. ...Read more

I shoplift everyday. I take gabitril & Zoloft & wellbutrin (bupropion). Should I have therapy?

I shoplift everyday. I take gabitril & Zoloft & wellbutrin (bupropion). Should I have therapy?

Moat likely: Shoplifting everyday is eventually going to lead to legal problems regardless how good you are at it. With tgat said, there is no medication that specifically treats kleptomania. Meds are prescribed in the hopes of decreasing the compulsive behavior at best. Consequently, getting therapy and beginning treatment is probably your best bet in terms of making personal change. ...Read more

Got diagnosed with adhd. Am in therapy. Cant use stimulants due to past abuse, wellbutrin/zoloft isn't helping, will I ever find something that works?

Got diagnosed with adhd. Am in therapy. Cant use stimulants due to past abuse, wellbutrin/zoloft isn't helping, will I ever find something that works?

Pills are not skills: Agree w/med options listed by other docs, esp. Guanfacine (intuniv) & atomoxetine (strattera), but since these don't work as quickly as pscyhostimulants, patience is an important part of finding med (s) that is/are right for you (though patience is not easy for people w/adhd, of course). Further, no meds will cure adhd, so cbt for adhd & building coping skills is important too. ...Read more

Why hasn't there been any major studies on bupropion in the treatment of adult adhd? Will it ever get approved for adult adhd?

Why hasn't there been any major studies on bupropion in the treatment of adult adhd? Will it ever get approved for adult adhd?

Because it's generic: Most of the money for large scale studies come from drug companies who are hoping to profit from finding a new indication for a drug. Once a drug is generic, that motivation is gone. There have been many small studies showing that bupropion can be effective for adults with adhd, and many psychiatrists and other doctors treating adhd, including me, will use it in patients with adhd + depression. ...Read more

How effective is wellbutrin (bupropion) sr 100mg?

Depends.: That would depend on what the wellbutrin (bupropion) sr is prescribed to treat. Wellbutrin (bupropion) sustained release would generally be used to treat depression, however it is also used for smoking cessation (zyban) and off label for adhd and substance use disorders. We also add it to other antidepressants to try and reverse sexual dysfunction. 100 mgs daily would be the lowest dose of that form of the medication. ...Read more
