Can I use betadine throat gargle to rinse my around my mouth for herpangina?

Yes, but won't help: Herpangina is a viral infection (coxsackie) resulting in painful oral ulcerations. The infection is contagious and resolves in 7-10 days. There is no effective treatment other than constitutional support: fluids, analgesics such as tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen, and rest. Betadine rinse would prevent secondary infection, but also would be irritating, exacerbating the condition and not killing the virus. ...Read more

Possible: Everyone has different presentation of the prodrome (the initial phase of hiv), ranging from nothing to mild cold resembling symptoms to those resembling full blown flu or tonsillitis. In cases where early symptoms show, could HIV sore throat present by itself or would it be accompanied by the rash&fever? How would that throat look?

It's moot: If you have a sore throat and you think you've met hiv, get with your physician for possible emergency treatment. The "yield" may be small and the chance of you having it is low, but it is real, and it's also a chance to get the therapeutic alliance that may save your life later. It's as simple as that. Plus, this is a chance to rule gonorrhea in or out. Hope things go well. ...Read more
