Headaches that started with a concussion 2 years ago. They can be relieved with Aleve (naproxen) but never seem to really go away.
I took 16 Aleve pills, 10 Advil pills, and 4 tylenol (acetaminophen) pills in the past 10 hours for a slight headache. What symptoms may occur and should I see a dr?
I normally take tylenol (acetaminophen) for headaches. But is it better to take something like advil or aleve if I have a few beers in me?
My 11-yo son has been getting bad headaches in temples last three nights. He had minor concussion a few months ago - not sure if related. Could just be a migraine - have been alternating ibuprofen/tylenol, minor relief. What else should we do?
Probably unrelated: A concussion can cause headaches and/or lower the threshold for a headaches shortly after the concussion (within a couple of weeks). However, it's hard to connect these headaches now with a concussion months ago. Think about other causes of headaches- stress, low blood sugar, eye fatigue/poor vision, infections, dehydration, etc. Of course, see your pediatrician if not improving. ...Read more
I normally take tylenol (acetaminophen) if I have a headache. But is it better to take something like advil or aleve if I had a headache after a night of drinking?
Hanover headache: Tylenol (acetaminophen) for hangover headaches doesn't do much, according to my patients. Aleve liquid caplets seem to help the best. 1-2 tabs can last 12-24 hours. Or you can also try exceedrin migraine, which has some caffeine (small amount), Tylenol (acetaminophen) and aspirin. My patients have also had good results with this. ...Read more
Took two extra strength Tylenol (acetaminophen) and got drunk last night. Now next night have headache and nausea am I ok? 23 yo male. Concussion 6 weeks ago. Healthy
Headache and nausea: Your symptoms are likely only due to the alcohol. The concussion 6 weeks ago should not be an issue if you were feeling well up until the time you got drunk. Still, alcohol and extra strength Tylenol (acetaminophen) is not a good mix. Two pills of the Tylenol (acetaminophen), however, would not be a problem, even with the alcohol. ...Read more

Ian taking 10mg of lexapro, lately I have been experiencing a stiff neck and headaches, I read you cannot take aleve or Advil, Tylenol (acetaminophen) does not help?
Therapy?: Have you yet tried any form of psychotherapy? Typically, the optimal combination of things to treat emotional issues such as anxiety or depression is medication (which, on your best day, is supposed to take the edge off symptoms) but the real gruntwork takes place in psychotherapist's consulting room. ...Read more
My brother plays football, and complained about a headache all day. The pain did not go away even though we gave him Aleve (naproxen). Is it a concussion?
Concussion?: Did your brother get hit in the head? It's kind of hard to have a concussion without being hit in the head. A headache by itself is a headache, not a concussion. What you should NOT expect from HealthTap is an answer to your question, "Is it a concussion? " There is no substitute (including HealthTap) for a hands-on assessment in a doctor's office. Please reread the HealthTap disclaimer. ...Read more
I have ITP - never needed treatment. I'm on Prozac for anxiety. What can I take that is safe if I have a headache? Tylenol (acetaminophen)? Aleve?
Acetaminophen: Acetaminophen (Tylenol (acetaminophen) and many other over the counter meds) is safe because unlike Aleve (ibuprofen) it has no effect on platelet function. Aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) do affect platelet function, which increases risk of bleeding, which is already increased in ITP due a lower platelet count. ...Read more

Need diagnosis: The head and neck issues may be interacting, and the neck may be a trigger for the headache, but might consider possibility of disc protrusion, or even thoracic outlet syndrome secondary to shoulder strap. Also, might wonder about intracranial problem. See your doc and try some conservative meds and physical therapy first. ...Read more

How does acetaminophen figure into ibuprofen and naproxen? Which one gives relief better for l. Headaches and 2. Anti-inflammatory
Two different meds:
Acetaminophen is not an anti-inflammatory. It is a pain reliever and anti-pyretic (reduces fevers).
Ibuprofen and Naproxen are both pain relievers nad anti-inflammatories. They are nsaids (non steroidal anti inflammatory).
For headaches, everyone is different. For some one works better and others it is the opposite. ...Read more

Tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok: Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (such as lexapro) may enhance the antiplatelet effect of NSAID (such as Aleve/Advil). I've had on/off fever for months, but now it's been 11 days w/o relief with aleve/tylenol. Begins a few hours after I wake and I feel terrible. Ideas?
CIDP management: In my review, I did not find fever as a manifestation of cidp. However, cidp is an immunological disorder that makes you more susceptible to infections. You need to see the physician who is treating your cidp for an evaluation. If he (she) has no new suggestions, ask for a referral to an infectious disease specialist. ...Read more
Depends on patient: Mobic (meloxicam) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent (nsiad). Aleve (naproxen) is also an nsaid. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is not an anti-inflammatory medicine. Mobic lasts longer and in most cases needs to be taken once daily. Patients react differently to nsaids. So the efficacy frequently is patient dependent. ...Read more
