What to do if I had 50 mg of trazodone two days ago and am still feeling the effects. How long does it take to wear off?

That is my short ans: 50 mgm trazadone, 48 hours later you still have the effects.
You probably went to see an md with some complaints, which included sleep disturbance. He gave you trazadone and you sort of sleeping since then.
Time for total truth.

What is desyrel (trazodone)?

What is desyrel (trazodone)?

Desyrel (trazodone): It is the brand name for trazodone, an antidepressant which is mainly used to help people sleep. Only doses above 400mg has antidepressant effects but that would usually cause so much sleepiness that it is not used at all for depression. Most people sleep well at 100mg or below. A minority needs up to 450mg to sleep well, but they have other severe mental problems also. ...Read more

Is trazodone a safe medication.

For most, yes: If prescribed and followed by a doctor, trazodone can be very safe. It's often used to help with sleep these days, rather than using it for its antidepressant features alone. Trazodone 100 mg tablet makes you gain weight?

Trazodone 100 mg tablet makes you gain weight?

It certainly can: Trazodone is one of my favorite medications to help sleep. It is nonaddicting and safe for most people. But any sedating medication can give you the "munchies": craving sweets and carbohydrates. If you're not craving carbs, the trazodone is probably not the problem. Eat properly: no matter what, avoid sweets (especially sweetened drinks), junk food, cookies, candy, & simple starches like potatoes. ...Read more

How long will 50mg of trazodone stay in your system?

Not long: Trazodone has a biphasic half-life but both phases are short (3-6 & 5-9 hours). The rule of thumb is that your body is "cleaned out" after 5 half-lives, so 5x7 = 35 hrs. A day & a half after you've taken 1 dose of trazodone, only 3% will remain in your body. ...Read more

I take 100mg of trazodone but doesn't work as well now. Can I safely up the dose to 150 or 200?

Bipolar D/O: Your additional patient information does say you are bipolar, but there are no mood stabilizers on your medication list. I would be cautious about raising your trazodone dose. Sleep disturbance can signify a hypomanic or manic episode developing, and you would not want to precipitate that. I encourage you to work with a psychiatrist on this, and find better treatments than trazodone alone. ...Read more

Depression/insomnia: Desyrel/trazodone is an older medication indicated by the FDA for the treatment of depression & is effective for this purpose at the appropriate doses. Is trazodone good for a 9 year old?

No: Trazodone is not approved by the fda for children. Your child's doctor may prescribe it off-label, but it is not normally used as an antidepressant for children as it has not been studied in kids. Its often used in small doses as a "sleeping pill" in adults because it is so sedating, but we try to use safer things for sleep in children. And don't give your child something prescribed for you. ...Read more
