Is Tonsillitis A Serious Illness
Not usually: Our first president (george washington) died from a complication related to surgery for tonsillitis but generally tonsillitis is not serious... Other than causing severe pain. Complications include a peritonsillar abscess and severe swelling which can block your breathing. More importantly the streptococcus organism can produce toxins which can cause heart and kidney damage. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
3yr old had 2x10 day course of phenoxymethylpenicillin for repeated tonsillitis. Just finished 2nd lot, illness has returned. Alternative antibiotics?
Confusing question: Penicillin would be an appropriate treatment for confirmed strep, but do nothing for the many viruses that infect the tonsils. If a quick test confirmed each episode as strep, sequential treatment that includes a penicillin followed in the last few days with Rifampin can eliminate strep in a carrier. Without more specific data, no specific recommendation can be made. ...Read more

Many tonsillitis episodes can bring to chronic tonsils disease? And what about consequences? I'm very bored i'm always sick! :-( help me please
Possibilmente: Recurrent tonsillitis can lead to scarring in the tonsils so that they are unable to protect themselves. Chronic infection can lead to fatigue and malaise (my interpretation of your saying, "i'm bored.") and possible autoimmune disorders. Treatment is usually tonsillectomy when repeated cycles of antibiotics prove ineffective. See your doctor for referral to ENT specialist. ...Read more
I have bacterial tonsillitis and im in extreme severe pain! im taking my second round of amoxicilin and was wondering what I should take or do for the horrible horrible pain.?
Get re-evaluated: For tonsilitis, amoxicilin should do the job and you should feel better after few days of therapy. Since you are on second round of amoxicillin, it may not be the right med for you--possible resistent bug. Also, tonsilitis usually does not cause "horrible pain." i suggest getting re-evalutated for possible abscess, aphthous ulcers which can be very painfull. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more
I have had tonsillitis for 3 months, 8 lots of antibiotics/penicillin injections 2weeks ago, now having3more.Why isn't it going away?Immune disorder?
Chronic tonsillitis: Hopefully i understand your question correctly, but i think you're saying you are having chronic tonsil issues, perhaps with pain or sore throat or bad breath or swallowing issues. This could mean the tonsils are chronically infected with "biofilms" and that you may need to be evaluated for tonsillectomy. Other issues like reflux or masses should also be evaluated for at that appointment. ...Read more
