What is the safest hypertensive drug that i can use as first aid for client with 140/100 bp?

What is the safest hypertensive drug that i can use as first aid for client with 140/100 bp?

Not emergent: More damage is done trying to lower BP quickly than from high bp. 140/100 is mildly elevated and is not harmful over the shortrun. High BP causes damage over many years. That said, the first line drug is hydrochlorothiazide which is dirt cheap, has only rare side effects, and has excellent outcome data. ...Read more

Would any doctor perform a thyroidectomy on me with a ft4 of 49.4? As medication is not working and radio treatment is not recommended to me.

Would any doctor perform a thyroidectomy on me with a ft4 of 49.4? As medication is not working and radio treatment is not recommended to me.

Could be an option: Therapies for hyperthyroidism are medications, radioactive iodine therapy, and surgery. I would discuss all medical therapies before committing to surgery. Sometimes it may just take dose adjustments. Remember surgery trades on problem for another--hypothyroidism. Albeit it may be easier to treat, but you will still be on a medication permanently. If you fail medical therapy, surgery can work. ...Read more

How can cough be avoided in patients with copd? Is antibiotics the first line of treatment each time there is a cough?

How can cough be avoided in patients with copd? Is antibiotics the first line of treatment each time there is a cough?

One of many: To treat exacerbation of copd, yes, but often along with other medications such as atrovent (ipratropium) inhaler, etc. Antibiotics are used often and early for acute exacerbation of COPD because of the propensity of this patient population to develop subsequent pneumonia. I assume this person is under treatment by a physician for these problems? If not, seek one out immediately. ...Read more

Is it common with adders to leave their work (homework for example) till the last minute? And should meds help with these problems ?

Yes and possibly : Putting off work or getting distracted and not completing in time are common in patients with adhd or add. They may recognize how difficult it is going to be, and as is human nature, put it off to the last minute. Meds can help with the focus and attention which may be enough or additional help in learning how to organize and allocate time may also be needed. ...Read more

Plz be honest should a dr thats pt has a HRT rate above100 all the time an a low BP such as last time 54/92 not have some kind of work up done,if so??

Plz be honest should a dr thats pt has a HRT rate above100 all the time an a low BP such as last time 54/92 not have some kind of work up done,if so??

Needs evaluation: Hi. That is abnormal, and at face value, strongly suggests to me the need for a diagnostic evaluation. For clarification, the BP is 92/54, not 54/92. If chronic, I would not tend to suspect hypovolemia ("dehydration"), but rather other causes. If fluid intake adequate? Adrenal insufficiency can cause that. Are your blood salts normal? That BP could be normal. Also check thyroid. Needs evaluation. ...Read more

What decongestants should I look for in helping with the treatment of serous otitis media? I went to the doctors a while ago and plan a follow up soon

Mucinex-D and Afrin (oxymetazoline): Try mucinex-d as long as you don't have blood pressure problems, for 7-10 days. It's is useful to use afrin nasal spray 2 sprays each nostril 2x a day for 3 days only, as well. What is the best prescription weight loss medicine and why? Using it only as a starting point coupled with diet and exercise. Sometimes the first step is the hardest.

What is the best prescription weight loss medicine and why? Using it only as a starting point coupled with diet and exercise. Sometimes the first step is the hardest.

Complicated question: Unfortunately, there are no great options. Many meds have been taken off the market for safety concerns. The few that are left have their own side effect profile (cardiovascular risk, potential for addiction) and most studies show that the weight is regained after the medicine is stopped. The fda approved a new med recently - lorcaserin - but they are requiring more safety data. ...Read more

What is the procedure for a colonoscopy these days? I tried to make an appt with the physician but got no response.

USUAL STEPS: You will be instructed to take a clear liquid diet and not to eat after the evening prior to the procedure. The most important part is to drink all the golitely which will cause diarrhea until stool completely clears and only water is what you see. Its very important to be clean so that minute polyps can be seen and removed and no lesion missed. ...Read more

I have preoperation instruction , but still waiting for mvp repair schedule , the doctor is asking which valve do I prefer in case it is unrepairable, what is the best type?Case

Complicated: This is something that should be discussed at length before surgery with a firm decision as to what type of valve. Furthermore i would hope that the surgery is being done where valve repair is preferred. If the valve is unable to be repaired the options for valves are mechanical vs. Bioprosthetic. They both have advantages and disadvantages namely need for Coumadin (warfarin) or potential for repeat surgery. ...Read more

Is it true (in anyones opinion) that patients are using on line psychs doctors because 15 minute appointments is not sufficient with an in person appt?

Short appointments: I am old schools and i believe the doctor should spend time with the patient. But - get used to shorter and shorter times as obama and his obamacare strangulates doctors with low reimbursements, high overheads and regulations that would make the ss and gestapo look mild. ...Read more
