No: Both lead to your throat and to the lungs. The nostrils heat up and filter the air we breath, the lungs hate it when the air is cold and full of dust. ...Read more
Having pressure headaches and dizziness. Occasional clogged nostril either one side or the other. I'm a hypochondriac so scared of brain tumor.
Could be many things: That could actually be a migraine prodrome. Alternatively, viral infections (flu, stomach cold, etc) can lead to aseptic meningitis - not life threatening, but painful headache +/- dizziness. Lastly, tension-type headaches often present that way. See your neurologist to make sure it isn't anything serious, and then get it taken care of. Good luck! ...Read more

Concerning brain eating ameba; can I boil water in the morning to clean it and use it later in the day upto 12 hrs when cleaning nostril or reboil?
Yes but take care...: Water contaminated by amoebas like Balamuthia or Nagleria, can occur directly from the tap, contaminated either from the source plant or along household plumbing. Though it is safe to use water after boiling it, the problem is keeping it uncontaminated during the twelve hours since amoebic cysts can travel in dust. Keep the boiled water protected until the time of use, and it should be fine. ...Read more
Brief nosebleed at beach in Emerald Isle, NC. Flushed lower nostrils w iced Brita tap water after. (Did NOT irrigate sinus). Worry abt brain amoeba?
Can you get brain eating amoeba from bath / shower water slashing in nostrils? (Not forced up into nose) thank you
Where are you?: It depends entirely on how safe the water supply is. If the water is not from a safe source, and crawling with germs and critters from the water, you will get all sorts of bugs, including amoebae (and there are a lot of kinds of those, too) If it's from a safe source, you are likely fine. ...Read more

Creek water got up my nose. Shallow, warmish water. Left nostril kinda swelling a bit. Should I be worried about brain eating amoeba? Or anything else
Very unlikely: While creek water can carry a number of possible infectious agents including parasites and amoeba, in otherwise healthy individuals with normal immune systems, a serious infection from these would be unlikely. However, if your nostril continues to swell, becomes red, or you have worsening pain or any drainage/pus, see your doctor right away. ...Read more
Is there a way to differentiate between a cold sore or impetigo inside nose? Get occasional cold sores on outer edge of nostril. Dangerous to brain?
Bilateral face itch (forehead, nose, nostrils, eyebrows, cheeks). Brain MRI= no compression of V nerve, no lesions, no MS. It's my anxiety related?
I'm mystified: I can't imagine why on earth someone would get a brain MRI looking for a cause of itching. CN nerve compression may cause numbness, weakness (of muscles of mastication) or pain, but never itching. Ditto MS or brain "lesions." Itching that is not psychogenically related is due to something in the skin. You need to see a dermatologist. The brain MRI was of no value here. ...Read more

Headache for 4 day blood when blowing nose, if I put paper up nose blood is high up in nostril, GP give me ibuprofin and nasal cream is it brain tumour?
No tumor: The brain is encased in the cranial vault and can not result in bleeding from the nostril. The mucosa of the nose can induce bleeding. The nasal cavity extends in the facial region to the ethmoid sinuses. If bleeding persists many of the laryngeal scopes or nasal speculum can be passed into the nose for an exam. And bx if needed. ...Read more

I feel ear fullness&neck muscle spasm on right side&balance prob spinning to the left side. It comes and goes. I've red nostril inside on the right side and now astigmatism. Could it be brain tumor?
See below: Agree with need to evaluate and treat, but you could possess an inner ear problem called meniere's disease, and this could be pinned down by an otolaryngologist. If you have hearing loss focally on right side, and double vision, get MRI and "clear the air" regarding your concerns. Probably not tumor, but agree that you need a diagnosis. ...Read more

My right nostril is stuffed up and I'm coughing my brains out and occasionally am having a thin yellow phlem come out. How do I get rid of my problem?
Determine Cause: This sounds like a sinus issue. Acute or chronic, depending on time of onset and duration. Causes range from bacterial infection (often accompanied by fever, headache and/or ear pain) to seasonal allergies – less likely in the setting of Claritin-D. This would ideally be assessed by examination of your frontal and maxillary sinuses, as well as ears and nose. Cough is likely due to post nasal drip. ...Read more

I advise you to visit the emergency department to clarify if this is a serious problem or not. ...Read more
