Is there anything dangerous with an LDL of 122 and HDL of 95?

Is there anything dangerous with an LDL of 122 and HDL of 95?

Potentially: If you have a very high number of small particles in your LDL which can only be determined by fragmentation of the LDL by nuclear magnetic resonance, nmr, or spectrometry through regular blood work sent to your lab or to the berkley heart lab in ca. Specially meaningful if there is a strong family history of coronary artery disease. ...Read more

Hdl (Definition)

HDL, or high density lipoprotein, is a molecule in the body that is responsible for the transport of lipids (fats) from various organs including blood vessels back to the liver for processing and possible elimination. Because it helps prevent accumulation of lipids in blood vessels, HDL cholesterol is ...Read more

Hello, my cholesterol is 213. LDL 139. HDL 49. Is this dangerous?

Hello, my cholesterol is 213. LDL 139. HDL 49. Is this dangerous?

Probably not but...: Contrary to popular belief, cholesterol is not a major cause of heart disease; the real cause is inflammation.
However, it is reasonable to look at the subtypes of LDL as if it is mostly the small dense type it is of some concern. You should test other risk factors like CRP, homocysteine and Lp (a).

My total cholestrol is 205, triglyceride is199, HDL is 40, LDL is 124 and vldl is 41. Are all these markers dangerous?

My total cholestrol is 205, triglyceride is199, HDL is 40, LDL is 124 and vldl is 41. Are all these markers dangerous?

See below.: Assuming yno early family history of heart disease or personal history of diabetes, stroke, or heart attack, then: your total cholesterol is a bit high - however, this is due to abnormal numbers for the rest. Triglycerides (fats) are high - reduce your fat intake. Hdl is about right but could increase a bit more to 45. Ldl is on target. If you have the above risk factors, then ldl<100, tg<130. ...Read more

What does HDL do to ldl?

What does HDL do to ldl?

Pacman: Did you ever play pacman? Hdl is the LDL eating pacman. It helps decrease the total circulating LDL molecules and deliver them to the liver for storage and or disposal. You can not form plaques without inflammation of blood vessel walls and ldl (among other things). So the lower the circulating LDL levels are, the longer it takes to develop blocked arteries. ...Read more

What is ldl, what is hdl?

Bad and good: Ldl is the low density lipoprotein cholesterol, commonly known as the "bad" cholesterol as it is the one that increases ones risk for heart disease (through depositing plaque to the arteries.) HDL is the high density lipoprotein cholesterol, commonly known as the "good" cholesterol as it has cardio-protective effects when elevated. ...Read more

How are LDL and HDL different?

How are LDL and HDL different?

Cardiovascular Risk: Cholesterol is transported in the blood inside carrier vehicles called lipoprotein particles. Following entry into the artery wall low density lipoprotein (ldl) particles directly promote development of atherosclerosis ("hardening of the arteries") and increase risk for heart attack and stroke. High density lipoprotein (HDL) particles work in several ways to decrease atherosclerosis. ...Read more

What do HDL and LDL stand for?

Cholesterol types: High density lipoprotein (hdl) is also refered to as " good cholesterol" represents the cholesterol being carried away from the cells (in the garbege trucks), therefore the higher the better.
Low density lipoprotein (ldl) or "bad cholsterol" is in the delivery trucks, therefore the less the better. ...Read more

How to change HDL & LDL levels?

How to change HDL & LDL levels?

Foods Meds Exercise: Hdl & LDL are complex protein particles which transport all fat molecules in the water outside cells. Get NMR particle test for accurate data. Carbs (sugar) & obesity raise LDL & especially ↓ large HDL levels. Thus go hf/lc foods. Statins & chol absorption inhibitors tend to ↓ LDL particle concentrations. Cutting carbs, Niacin & intense exercise usually ↑ hdl, esp large-hdl particle concentrations. ...Read more

How do I lower my LDL and raise my hdl?

Diet & exercise: Moderate exercise (about 30 minutes 5 times a week) reduces LDL cholesterol and raises HDL cholesterol. Smoking can lower HDL levels, so stop smoking if you do. Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean sources of protein. Include monounsaturated fats in your diet- olive oil/canola oil. Moderate consumption of alcohol may also positively impact HDL levels. 1 glass of wine a day. ...Read more

Is having HDL level 131 and LDL 151 bad?

Good question: Hi. Not many people with lipid profiles like that have been studied, so no absolute answers. However, your HDL would generally be considered protective and your LDL would generally be considered a risk. It's like they're in competition. What are your triglycerides? Your non-HDL cholesterol? They could influence your risk as well as myriad genes that affect CAD risk. ...Read more

What's the difference between HDL and ldl?

What's the difference between HDL and ldl?

Cholesterol: High-density lipoprotein is known as "good" cholesterol. Low-density lipoprotein is known as "bad" cholesterol. Thought that HDL tends to carry cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it's passed from the body. Ldl can slowly build up in the inner walls of the arteries that supply the heart and brain, with other substances, it can form plaque (thick & hard) in the arteries. ...Read more

Lipids: Any lab test should not be interpreted in a vacuum but other factors need to be accounted for. These numbers don't seem so bad, but do you have any other risk factors - diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cigarette smoking, family history e.g. You may want to get a more sophisticated test looking at your lipid particle sizes. As lipid numbers go, though, on the surface these do not put you at risk. ...Read more

How normal is it to have higher HDL than ldl?

Abnormal -> Careful: Ldl particles, expressed as a concentration in nmol/l essentially always higher than HDL particle concentrations, expressed µmol/l. However, what is commonly promoted are estimations of cholesterol fat molecules associated beta-lipoproteins (ldl) or with alpha-lipoproteins (hdl). Theses value are not the correct issue & often misleading but promoted as cheaper way to estimate lipoprotein particles. ...Read more

Can you suggest how to lower my LDL and raise my hdl?

Diet and Statin Best: Weight reduction, plant stanol margarines, metamucil all lower cholesterol by about 10%. Most people need more lowering to get to their LDL target. For that, the statins reduce LDL from 30-60% and increase HDL by 5-10%. They reduce the risk of heart problems by 30-50%. Side effects are rare, though they can cause non-damaging muscle aching. Best to discuss your risk profile and target with an md. ...Read more
