I have psoriasis and ringworm in my scalp what kind of medicated shampoo treatment it's recommended over the counter?
See a Dermatologist.: Psoriasis may benefit from an steroid containing lotion/solution x scalp.. Ringworm will require antifungals ( against tinea) these too are very difficult to cure and i believe there is no good treatment over the counter. Nizoral shampoo is good for dandruff and tinea versicolor but i doubt will cure psoriasis or ringworm. Best option is to see a dermatologist or a pcp who has been successful ...Read more

I have eczema on my scalp. What are good over-the-counter treatments. Are there good medications that don't hurt my hair.
Are you sure?: Are you sure it is eczema??? Eczema elsewhere? If so, what treatment for it? No eczema treatment will hurt your hair. Use something in the shower which is good for dry skin. There are many. Body wash (Dove, Aveeno, (oatmeal) Eucerin, Cetaphil) can be used in the shower for scalp +face as well as the body. Look for a liquid cortisone. If this is not satisfactory, see a dermatologist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Are there oral medications which do not contain gluten for the treatment of ringworm of the scalp?
Griseofulvin: Tinea is a fungus, and when it occurs on the scalp it is actually called tinea capitus. Tinea corporis, on the body, is called ringworm, because it causes a ring-like rash. Fungus on the scalp is harder to treat than on the body. Rinworm responds to creams, like lamisil, (terbinafine) for about 2 weeks, but the scalp requires an oral medicine, like griseofulvin, and for a longer period of time (6-12 weeks). ...Read more

My 1 year old has a patch in the back of her hair and that i think is ring worm. Can I use any over-the-counter products to cure it?
Seldom cures: The otc products will often cure a skin lesion with tinea (ringworm). However, since the tinea getts into the hair root when it infests the scalp, the lotion or cream you put on top of the skin is not likely to go deep enough to kill it.They will reduce shedding of the germ and spread to others, but most cases require an oral anti-fungal given over an extended period for a cure. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
