Is There A Way To Make Yourself Have Amnesia And Forget Something Bad
Rather, neutralize..: Rather than forget, the usual goal of the healing process is to neutralize the emotional effect of that bad experience/memory & become emotionally at ease when the memory/thought comes to mind. On this, plenty of research & writings are out there. Usually we try bringing things into the conscious realm rather than the other way around... So that we deliberately make peace with what happened.See 2 more doctor answers

What could cause momentary (30sec) amnesia where you forget who and where you are, how you got there, etc? No similar episodes, no warning signs.
It's complicated...: Amnesia can be caused by physiological or psychological means. From the physical basis it can be from a focal or widespread source. Temporary (delirium) or permanent (dementia). It can impact immediate, recent, or remote memories. They are stored differently. From psychological--trauma can lead to repression or dissociation. It's complicated.
I tend to forget stuff like things to bring, my agenda for the day, etc. Is it amnesia or short term memory loss?
Depends: 1. Are you forgetful for other things as well or is it for smaller stuff? 2. For the time being may be helpful to write down to do list. 3. Is the memory loss etc worse at a particular time of day etc. 4.Also are you taking any medication? 5. Might help to check with pcp.
To be or not to be: Serious. To be - it might vary case by case Alzheimer's - even rapid - grows. So, to begin the changes might be seamless. Not to be - I can't remember.
140lb took Ativan (lorazepam) 5mg (single dose, 3days ago). It is prescribed only 0.5mg prn. Caused compete amnesia at time. BAD memory problems still. Reversible?
Ativan (lorazepam) Overdose: So you took 10 pills instead of 1 if I understand you correctly. Hopefully it is reversible. Time will tell. You certainly could have damaged yourself by causing yourself to stop breathing. This could have caused brain damage. I suggest you be evaluated by your doctor with complete honesty as to what all has happened in this episode and others, you need some help!
Yes: There is memory loss which is laying down new memories. It is not limited to people but all recent experiences. There are also many other types of memory loss.
What could be wrong if you are having memory loss even to the point you forget your age and I'm only 33?
As above: I agree with other doctor, see a. Psychiatrist or neurologist for evaluation and work up.See 1 more doctor answer
Unclear: Short-term memory loss at age 45 is unusual. Sometimes depression can cause this symptom. Also, medical conditions such as hypothyroidism and B12 deficiency. See if you have any other symptoms, and check yourself for those conditions. In an otherwise completely healthy adult without symptoms, short-term memory loss needs to be evaluated by a physician.
Get an evaluation: If you haven't been evaluated yet by your doctor, that might be a good place to start. There are so many reasons for memory problems. Your doctor can evaluate what's going on and take it from there. Often memory problems can be improved, but it helps to be evaluated by a professional. Keep in mind that nobody's memory is perfect. It helps to have a system of keeping notes that you check often.
Not normal: You should see your pcp about this complaint. There are many causes of short term memory problems in young patients. The most common is depression, anxiety disorder, or substance abuse but there are many other (organic) causes also, including vision change, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, etc. As you can see, this is a very broad topic and needs full discuss with a md.See 1 more doctor answer

I've been having problems concentrating for years now and also been having problems with memory loss. Lately it has gotten pretty bad. What should I d?
Yes to both: If that is happening, talk to you doctor about alternatives that are natural, or see a sleep disorders psychologist for cognitive behavioral therapy of insomnia. Also make sure the memory loss is not coming from something else. If you have ptsd causing nightmares, that should also be addressed.
Not easy answer: The memory issues after anesthesia and surgery have been the focus of many studies. It is unclear if anesthesia by itself or if surgery and anesthesia or if surgery by itself is what causes postoperative cognitive dusfunction. There is no know treatment and there is no known proven way to prevent pocd except by not having surgery and anesthesia.
Sure: This is an interesting hypothetical question. I guess this is true.
