Is There A Proper Technique To Perform A Fingerstick Glucose Test
Not really: Hi. It's so easy, it's like falling outta bed! Hands should be clean, but unless you have a dirty job, no one washes just for testing if your hands are reasonably clean. Don't dip your fingers in honey over the test site; glucose on the skin would, of course, influence results. Otherwise, no special routine. No one uses alcohol pads (like they do at doctors offices, etc). It's SO easy! Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sorry, no: At this time, real time blood sugar monitoring requires capillary blood, which involves a needle prick. Some meters allow for use on palms an thighs, but the result is less accurate. Continuous glucose monitors can check bgs every 5 min to let your dr see 'the overall trend' over several days, but even then you still have to check finger stick 2-4 times daily to calibrate the monitor... ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
4 ways: Hi. Testing for diabetes can be done 4 ways: fasting serum glucose, 2-hour 75 gram oral glucose tolerance test, A1c, and random (non-fasting) serum glucose. Each has it's own diagnostic criteria, and the fasting glucose, A1c, and 2-hour post-challenge glucose also have intermediate criteria (i.e., prediabetes). Serum glucose must be used for diagnosis (i.e., NOT finger stick blood glucose). ...Read more
Lancets: Unfortunatle checking bs will require pricking your fingers ( there is sensors called cgm but those are approved for type i diabetes and will still require calibration using above method). Yes please reed?: 'no coding' systems. Older systems required 'coding' of the strips to the meter. This carried a risk of 'miscoding', which can lead to inaccurate results. Two approaches have resulted in systems that no longer require coding. Some systems are 'autocoded', where technology is used to code each strip to the meter. And some are manufactured to a 'single code', thereby avoiding the risk of miscoding. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
