Part of their critical functions include the excretion of urine and removal of nitrogenous wastes products from the blood. They regulate acid-base, electrolyte, fluid balance and blood pressure. Depends on Pill: Some medicines are metabolized (cleared/detoxified) by the liver. Others are filtered and excreted (removed) by the kidney. Still others are metabolized by the liver and then excreted by kidneys. In kidney failure, some medicines will build up to dangerous levels and should not be used. Others can be used but dose must be reduced. ...Read more

No magic pill: The type of pills that can help with your liver or kidneys depend on what type of help your liver or kidneys need. Different conditions require different types of treatments. Generally speaking, there isn't one cure-all medication or pill. Your liver, and to some extent your kidneys, are resilient and can often heal from injury/intoxication just by removing the injury or poison and allow time... ...Read more

I am on diet and taking a pill named "adipex retard". May I know is it any side effect for my body? Will it spoil my kidney? How long should I stop?
Phentermine: Phentermine can have many side effects, including tachycardia, insomnia, dizziness, constipation, etc. It is metabolized by the liver, so your kidneys won't be directly affected. Most treatment courses last no more than 6 wks; this drug can be habit forming, and dangerous side effects can occur if it is stopped abruptly. Please be sure you are seeing a physician while taking this drug. ...Read more
I've taken on average about 2-4 Excedrin pills a day for years. (2-4 every 6 hours). How likely are organs damaged? I've had basic blood work and tests done for kidney checkup and no scary results yet
Well: Everyone is different. So far you are doing OK. At some point in life the results will not be the same. There is no crystal ball as to how long you can keep this up. Speak with your doctor and get bloodwork done regularly (at least once a year) to see any trends that may be happening. ...Read more

Against diet pills: Unless it was prescribed by a physician, I would not take it. Personal trainers these days prescribe and give out those like candy. Seriously concerning: I can't comment on the quality of the health care you've already received, but I am VERY worried about you. Especially, I am seriously concerned that the vomiting you describe is due to acute pyelonephritis -- or that you have vomiting from some other cause and are now in kidney failure. You need to be under the care of a competent physician. Get to a major medical center now. ...Read more

Cont mom#3! hydromorphone 2mgs as a prn. She's not 1 2 take pills that aren't needed but she's is in so much pain. Can that med cause her kidney 2fail?
Very unlikely: If she is in addisonian crisis, this alone would explain the pain and kidney problems. This is a very serious condition, and needs close medical monitoring. Decreasing oral steroids too quickly can also cause similar complaints. I think the primary concern should be evaluating her hormonal status, which will help resolve her pain. Keep in touch with her doctor weekly, if not more. Good luck! ...Read more

If I'm anemic can I still donate blood if I don't take iron pills and if I'm on kidney medication?
No: Only in a special situation where an anemic person's blood is urgently needed would anyone want to take an anemic person's blood donation... because it would make the donor even more anemic. Perhaps if an anemic person were the only matching donor remaining in town, and a tranfusion was emergently needed... but that situation should not happen anywhere in modern America. ...Read more
I was diagnosed with a 5mm kidney stone and UTI on July 22. On medications and pain pills still have pain just not as bad. What to do?
KIDNEY STONE: Sounds like you are being given the chance to pass the stone which always beats the alternative. I would first recommend that you DRINK, DRINK, and DRINK. Water that is. Lemonade is fine too but you don't want to overdo the calories. Over hydrate yourself so you literally flush that stone out. Secondly, move around as much as you can. Jar it loose and use gravity to your advantage. GOOD LUCK. ...Read more
