Floaters, flashes: Retinal detachment releases blood elements into the visual axis -you will see many floaters - and jiggles the retinal -this stimulus creates light flashing or light streaks - and as it progresses you may see greying out or blockage of the vision. When these occur suddenly especially after trauma, see an ophthalmologist right away. This is a mechanical event -no natural remedies exist. ...Read more

How to get rid of floaters in my eyes?

Depends: First question is have you had a dilated exam to make sure that the floaters are not accompanied by other findings such as retinal tears. As a retina specialist, i rarely recommend a "floaterectomy" or vitrectomy for floaters. Usually they are not severe enough to require any treatment. Another option is yag vitreolysis. How do I get rid of floaters in my eye?

Beware cataracts. Be sure to get dilated exam to check for retinal tears too. ...Read more

I have had a floater in my eye for over a week. Is there any known way to get rid of it?

Yes!: This can be a result of the normal aging process in the vitreous (jelly in the eye). You need an eye exam to make sure this is not a tear or hole in the retina. Typically you should wait for at least a year to see if it will subside or stop bothering you on its own. If not you can have surgery to remove the floater (vitrectomy). ...Read more

Please tell me if there is a way to get rid of eye floaters?

Floater removal can: Be accomplishes in one of two methods. The less invasive method is through yag laser removal that can be performed in office. This works best for solitary small or medium sized floaters. The alternative is a surgical vitrectomy where we surgically remove the vitreous gel and thus the floaters. This is a surgical procedure though and carries the normal inherent risks of any ocular surgery. ...Read more

Has anyone done vitrectomy to get rid of floaters? How much risk is there for 60 yo patient?

Rarely: Vitrectomy is in fact a big deal with risk to vision and the future health of the eyes. It is not undertaken lightly. Most floaters one can live with. A few vitrectomies have been done for extensive floaters that interfere with eye function. I would not advise it for annoying floaters that do not threaten vision. ...Read more
