Is There A Link Between Ovarian Cancer And Genital Herpes
Is it regular, long term use of talcum powder in the genital area that increase risk of ovarian cancer? What about a handful of times only?
Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more
I used baby powder on genital area after a few waxes I had. so worried about ovarian cancer now. Should I get them removed to reduce the risk?
No: i have followed the talcum powder and cancer claim for forty years and I think it is complete junk. It has made a lot of money for a few people, and caused all kinds of distress and expense to ordinary, decent people. Don't be taken by people whho want to upset and frighten you for their own gain. Relax and get on with your life. ...Read more
I read that baby powder with talc, can cause ovarian cancer. I used it about 20 times in my life in the genital area, about 10 years ago. What is my risk?
I doubt it: I have been following this stuff since the 1970's and I think it's junk science. Epidemiology by its nature generates an enormous amount of garbage. The claim does't make sense biologically and I am sorry it is turning out to be a money-maker for tort law. Don't worry and use cornstarch from now on. ...Read more
No.: Genital herpes, caused by hsv - herpes simplex virus, does not turn into cancer. You may be confusing this with another common std, genital warts, caused by hpv - human papilloma virus. Some "high risk" strains of hpv may lead to cervical (or anal or oral) cancer. Women should see their gyn for a pap smear which is used to find it at the earliest stages. There is no blood test for hpv. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Yes and no: Testing positive for hsv (herpes simplex virus) means that you have acquired an infection which is classified as a sexually transmitted disease (std). This is not related to HIV or cervical cancer; however, these others are caused by other sexually transmitted viruses (hiv and hpv). There is no "cure" for herpes. There are medicines which can help reduce the symptoms and the time of a flare up. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Not really.: This is from presence and proliferation of the endometrium cells outside of the uterus. They can even deposit on the ovary. Complications, like adhesions, pelvic cysts, and chocolate cysts of the ovary occur. Use of oral contraceptives can lower the risk of this as well as that of ovarian cancer, but aside from this, no connection between this and ovarian cancer is known. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is there any evidence that links pregnancy-related hormone therapy treatments with increased risk of ovarian cancer?
Tough question: By this i assume you mean for in vitro vertilization. Any hormone manipulation has a potential for side effects. Increased Estrogens increases the risk of breast and cervical cancer, but lower estrogen increases risks of ovary and uterus--also influenced by Progesterone and other hormones. This is not a straight forward topic, as there are many studies that contradict each other. ...Read more
It is a cancer which arises from the ovary. This cancer is typically silent, producing little or no symptoms till it spreads, first into the pelvic area and later into the peritoneal cavity leading to fluid accumulation(ascites) which is often the first symptom. Despite its late presentation, there is a reasonable treatment for it, with some long term survivors even ...Read more
