Im being tested for overactive thyroid. The doctor put me on clonazepam and citalopram in the mean time for severe anxiety/panic attacks. Is severe weeakness a symptom of the thyroid or the meds?

Hard to say: Without knowing your thyroid test results, this is very hard to say. If the weakness onset was right after starting the medications, that may be the cause. If you have sever hyperthyroidism ( TSH is very low and your free thyroxine, t4, is very high), then your thyroid could be contributing. Palps: Palps (palpitations) are defined as skipped heart beats and may indicate a rhythm disorder, without specifically identifying which one. At your age without any apparent heart disease (I assume) it is highly unlikely to be Afib. Your symptoms could well be due to anxiety and panic attacks. Your doctor has the means to determine exactly if you truly have a rhythm disorder or "just" anxiety. ...Read more

Addictive Drugs: The medicines you mention are benzodiadepines, to be used only in the short term for anxiety. In the long term they are addictive and you need more drug to get the same effect. Please see a psychiatrist to work out a plan for your anxiety which should include an SSRI drug like Paxil (paroxetine) or Prozac, as well as counseling and therapy. ...Read more
