Is The Use Of Ginger Ale Good For Low Caloie Diets
Human studies suggests that 1g daily of ginger may be effective for nausea and vomiting in pregnant women when used for short periods (no longer than 4 days). Several studies have found that ginger is better than placebo in relieving morning sickness. In a small study of 30 pregnant women with severe vomiting, those who took 1 gram of ginger every day for 4 days reported more relief from vomiting than those who took placebo. In a larger study of 70 pregnant women with nausea and vomiting, those who received a similar dosage of ginger felt less nauseous and did not vomit as much as those who received placebo. Pregnant women should ask their doctor before taking ginger, and should be careful not take more ...Read more

Oy!! 826!! ...Read more
Is selenium supplement good as for antioxidant purposes in our body. And what is the recommended dose for 24y male and is it good for liver .Nash?
I wouldn't advise it: Thirty years of work on antioxidants has made it pretty clear that they don't prevent disease or improve longevity, despite all the theoretical reasons that they are supposed to. There's one reference in an obscure journal in 2005 to selenium having been tried for nash and on the evidence it was a dismal failure -- if it worked, the research piranhas would be all over it. It's your choice. ...Read more
I drink 2 to 4 liters of (caffeine-free) diet soda each day as my primary/sole source of liquid in take. Is this a dangerous or unhealthy choice?
See previous answer: It could be a healthy choice depending on what your other choices might be. Drinking beer? Much better. Drinking water? Not so much. Drinking sugar sweetened soda? Way too many calories in 2 liters of soda. I would consider this amount of soda, juice, coffee or milk excessive. Moderation in all things. ...Read more

heard of diet called "shape reclaimed". u take drops ea day in water & there is hormones from sheep in it? Is this.safe? u r on low carb diet also
Safe, ?effective: I spent a fair amount of time exploring their website. I was not able to learn if the hormones come from sheep but since it is homeopathic it would only have trace amounts. But homeopathy is quite safe and the diet looks reasonable. I like that it is administered/supervised by health professionals. No research to show how effective it is but does look safe. If you try it tell us your results! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Given butter contains trans fat and cholesterol (good for myelin though), is it advisable to include (10g/day) in 1.5yo normal-weighing infant's diet?
Yes: Butter contains a small amount of trans fat in the form of conjugated linoleic acid, which is good for you! not all trans fats are bad! cholesterol in butter does not significantly raise our cholesterol levels and cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease. No need to avoid butter, but far better if organic esp. From grass-fed cows. See my comment for some interesting links. ...Read more
What are the benefits and drawbacks of low fat museli with one spoonful of low fat yoghurt? Will it lead to excessive weight gain?
Not the key: Weight is ultimately about calories in and calories out, but it's a fact of life that nobody is really counting. The key to staying trim is a fitness-focused lifestyle, including exercising and choosing friends who exercise. Avoid very greasy, very salty, and very sugary foods as best you can, and learn to limit portions. Exercising helps your brain regulate how much you eat. Best wishes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I've started a plant based low fat diet, but it prohibits all fats, even natural fats. Are fats needed? Is a lack of fats bad for my health?
Fats are essential: Good fats are critical for health. Your brain operates on fat, not glucose like the rest of the body. Naturally occurring vegetarian fats such as nuts, avocados, seeds, olive oil are great and if only eating a vegetarian diet, you will need more. Plant based diets are great if done well which means eating real vegetables, some fruit, lots of nuts and seeds, and minimizing the carbs to 3/day ...Read more
How big of a help is the addition of protein to a higher carb meal in terms of keeping blood sugar level lower (for one meal/event, not long term)?
Very helpful: The glycemic index measures how much a food raises blood sugar compared to eating sugar. But the glycemic indexes of a meal are the average, so if you eat 8 ounces of baked potato with a glycemic index of 90 and also have 8 ounces of chicken or fish, with a glycemic index close to zero, the average for that combo is 45. Protein has a strong effect in modifying the rise in blood sugar from carbs. ...Read more
Are low carb high fat diets bad? You can lose lots of weight, but is a long term approach not good for your health?
No: Licorice inhibits the proper function of synthesis of adrenal hormones resulting in the over stimulation of the cellular receptor responsible for the retention of free water and excretion of potassium. There is no evidence of an epidemic of poorly functioning adrenal glands despite the popularity of the diagnosis "adrenal fatigue". ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
